SR20DET turbo upgrade???

I'm wanting to do a blacktop s13 SR20 in an s13. Not sure what route go on the turbo. I definitely want to upgrade. Here's what I want out of the car. 350-400hp, mid to high 12's in the 1/4, I don't want this to be a drag car by any means but I still wanna put down decent numbers, but still maintain a decent spool time. Probably siding with faster spool time than top end. I intend for this car to be fully gutted and caged. So quite a bit lighter than stock. I don't plan to make these numbers on just the turbo upgrade alone. Complete intake, downpipe, exhaust. elec. boost controller, FMIC, fuel system...etc will be installed also. Pretty much everything but build the motor, which may come later. I've been looking at doing the s15 GT28, but I'm not sure it will be enough. I've also looked into the Garrett GT2871R, and GT25R. Which I think may be more suitable for what I'm looking for. Just wondering if anyone has either of these turbos on their cars or any ideas on the best turbo set up for my situation. Thanks.

I don't have that much experience with turbos but I want to point out a flaw. There is no such thing as a S13 Blacktop. The Blacktop SR20's only came in the S14 and the S15. The SR20 that comes from the S13's are redtops. Just thought you should know...

Really? I was under the impression that there was a redtop and a blacktop in the s13's. I know there was a blactop in the s14's that was the notchback, my buddy just ordered one from phase2motortrend for his s14. These may be mislabeled but I've found these motors/clips. Labeled as s13 blacktops (not notchbacks).

Honestly, I don't care much about whether the motor exists or not. I'd really like some turbo advice from someone who has upgraded theirs or knows what could help me out.

wow no kidding. Well i have to say thanks because I had no clue!! I know production in the states for the S13 ended after 94. I just assumed that production for the S13 ended in Japan at the same time.

getting back to your question:

i would suggest this turbo

HKS GT3037S - 450/480 PS Output

COMPRESSOR:
-Wheel- 52/56 Trims - 55.0/57.0 Inducers / 76.2 Major
-Housing- 100 Inlet / 50 Outlet - 0.60 A/R
TURBINE:
-Wheel- 84 Trim - 60.0 Major / 55.0 Exducer
-Housing- GT25 inlet / External GT30 outlet; 0.61, 0.73, 0.87, 1.01, 1.12 A/R

will give you the power and spool you are looking for with some room for a bit more power if you decide to build up your internals

I'd agree on this if you wouldn't get raped on the pricing. Seriously, try a PTE 50 trim turbo. http://www.precisionturbo.net/turboc...tegory_id=3026
PM me for more info, I might be able to help you out w/ pricing on Precision stuff.
P.S. The GT28RS (Disco Potato) w/ the .83 A/R turbine would prolly do the job for you. It'd have amazing spool time on a 2.0L. Precision sells it.

Correct me if im wrong but arent the disco potato's rated to flow for +/- 350 crank hp? I'd get the gt2871r if 400ish is your goal, anyone have a direct driver comparison of spool time for these two? I know the 71r isnt quite as matched in wheel size as the gt28rs but i it has higher output ceiling...anyways has anyone run both of these? where do they each start spooling?

i thought the disco potato housing was designed for better low and mid level hp at the expensive of highend power... you culd always go with a t3/t4 setup. t3 intake 50 trim fast spooling and bigger t4 exhaust
