Selecting my Turbo...

ok, before I start, all this applies to an S14 SR20DET.

I am selecting some parts for my turbo upgrade, and I know I want to go with a turbonetics 62-1 compressor. my question is this:
would it be worth it to get a new turbine?
a whole new turbo?
or is it good to just leave everything and add the compressor. I will be looking at 350 whp at 15 psi....

A T-88 would do you no good.
I would say get a new turbo and manifold, and wastegate of course. And i am assuming you have fuel done? pump, injectors..?
and also some sort of ecu, jwt or standalone?
350hp@15psi? why would you be pushing just 15psi?
more info please.

I dont have any upgrades done, this is just a buttload of planning. I plan alot....

but it would be stand alone. TEC II/3
and I am only going 15 psi because around here, u can only get 92 octane fuel. and 350 with 15 psi wont be that hard. Full fuel treatment, open airways, and new compressor. but will a new turbine be worth ****?

also, this car is not gonna be a drag silvia, its gonna be evenly balanced.
But one thing I am into spending money on is lightweight stuff. mainly because it helps both handling and acceleration.

92, that sux. I never heard that problem. Maybe get some octane booster or something...
I personally dont know anyone who just changed the compressor wheel in the T25. Its such a small turbo i am just going to upgrade. Depending on what your plans are, a common one is the t4/t3, plus manifold.
the standalone is the way to go. im looking at those two ,and the ek6.
A T88 though ( i know it wasnt your idea), would take you a year and a half to spool , lol.
I also personally like the Td06, and the T67. I plan on going with a 67, but im building a drag car, so you prob. wouldnt want something that big.
I still dont know how easy that 350 rwhp will be at 15psi. I only have like 250 at 14psi...but i dont know..

well, I am gonna be running 20% toluene, so I know the ending octane is gonna be around 96 octane. I also plan on having a TRIPLE stage boost controller.... I am drawing up the schematics right now.... but I cant tell you details, its secret

The reason you don't have any upgrades done is becuase you don't have a bloody car yet let alone a license. It's all good to plan a head but didn't you daddy say you couldn't raise the HP of your car yet and what is and engine swap gonna do? Man

What you're looking for then, is a quick spooling turbo that can boast a reasonable amount of boost.

DONT get a turbo that is too big that can handle outragous boost because there will be too much lag. If you want it evenly balanced, then what I mentioned above is what you want.

Qwick spooling turbo:
-good off the line
-reasonable amount of power
-power pretty wherever you need it (across pwerband) -Good for auto-x

^^above is what im looking for too

just cause he/she aint got a license yet doesnt mean dont plan , Im about to turn 18, i got my license when i turned 16 but didnt even have a car(shared with my sister that bought hers), i worked for a year and saved up enough to buy my current car (93 240) and I love it. I have since saved enough for mods but not many. BTW I know none of that money is urs but instead daddies, so plan away!

if you want quick and powerful, look no further than GT series turbos from garrett. these turbos are expensive, but they are dual ball bearing and flow more air than a T series turbo. if you're looking for something in the T62-1 range, pick up a GT40 series. the complanies that are the biggest and the baddest of companies choose these to put on all their road/drag cars. Just to fortify on what others have said, what exactly do you plan to accomplish? are you road racing it? daily driver? if you plan on doing this, the t62-1 is too large. the t60-1 is just barely streetable w/o excessive lag. Even with a tri-boost controller, you're gonna be running into severe driving issues... I have a dual stage, and that is quite enough for anyone in my opinion.

Yea, power to the new gen. hehe. I'm 17, and I'm work'n my *** off, summertime means 10-12 work hrs to get an sr20 that imma put in myself,..... laugh all u want, once its in, me>you.

But about the turbo, don't you need a new manifold for almost any other aftermarket turbo? Why not just get the whole kit to save time later.
