I have read that many times. Anything above 11-12 psi and you are pushing it. Look at some of the Auzzie boards, I read that the hot side of the turbo will fly apart if it goes above 13-14psi... Short burst of 12-14psi seems like it would not be to bad for it (turbo only), But I am not sure.

Well first off, McKinney Motorsports are dumb. The turbo has ceramic wheels, not plastic. If they were plastic, they would have melted as soon as the turbo spooled. You can run 12-15 psi on a stock turbo. The T3/T4 is a great upgrade and bolts up to the stock maniflod. I dont have an RB but I know this info pretty well.

tommyboy, Yes some of the Turbos do come with Plastic wheels. Ask people who HAVE rb's...........

Taken from Skylinesdownunder.com

exhaust wheels are ceramic composite. and bonded to the shaft. rather attached by a nut to a steel shaft.

if you boost them too high and they spin too quick it can seperate, losing the exhuast wheel.

Series 2 r33 and r34 turbos have the plastic wheels.
With any car running high boost, personally id have a air/fuel
gauge in my car to make sure its not leaning out.

long term - set spike to 12.2 psi for s1 turbo
- set spike to 13.2 psi for s2 turbo
break point at 13.3 psi

s1 is ceramic impeller 12.3 break point
s2 is plastic impeller 13.3 break point

Break point is for hot hot turbo where the glue is weakest on the shaft. While the turbo isn't that hot you can get away with higher boost.

Seems mechanics don't want to tell you this cause it will mean you don't come in for a turbo replacement.

Sorry if I came across kind of mean but you just called me dumb!!!

I too think Nissan was stupid for making plastic turbo wheels, but look at what that motor was really for.....

It spools really quick and gives great gas milage and hp number for a daily commuter car.

Sorry about that!!! I guess it would make a quick spooling turbo, but I wouldn't think it would last very long being plastic with all of the heat involved in a turbo.
