MAF or MAP in sr20?

Does the sr20 use a MAF and a MAP or just a MAP? Im wondering because im trying to figure out if a bov needs to recirculate or can just be dumped to atmosphere. Does the sr20 come stock with a bov and if so does it recirculate or dump to atmosphere?

If my memory serves me correctly, its a maf. But imo vent it into the atmosphere that way you get a better sound. Now if you think that your car will stall because the the rcih mixture during venting, buy an S-afc from apex'i and that has the option of adjusting for open air BOVs.

1. Dumping to the atmosphere WILL cause your engine to run lean unless you compensate (through an AFC or ECU tune). Nothing to think about there (The SR runs a MAF setup like the KA).

2. Buying an AFC just so you can vent to the atmosphere for a "cool sound" is pretty ridiculous IMO.

3. The stock BOV recirculates air.

oops. meant to say rich. the MAF is reading air that isn't actually going into the engine which causes the ECU to flow more fuel to the injectors.

It probably wont stall, but do you notice smoke comming out of your exhaust or backfiring?

isn't backfireing a result of running rich? i thought if you vent into the atmosphere you are running lean.

Just think about it for a second and you'll be able to figure out the out come.

Turbo sucks air metered by the MAF, boosts it towards the throttle body then the throttle plate closes while all that air is coming towards it. This air bounces back towards the compressor housing but gets blown out into the atmosphere by the BOV. Now this air has been mesured and a signal has been sent to the ecu to shoot the appropriate amount of fuel. Now with more fuel and less air, you get that rich mixture. Hope this helps clear it out for ya.

ok...
stock sr's come with a recirc valve located near the stock intercooler..
it is a maf sensor...
most nissan runs mafs..
hondas run maps..

but if u are boosting and u have open venting bov u will be fine..
just dont let it idle right away or it could die..
but isnt the whole point of a turbo the bov
=)

if your planning on a turbo ka or and sr, and you are really concerned with the bov sound, you could run a "blow through" set up, wich is basically just placing the MAF after the bov. so you would place the MAF after the intercooler in the piping but about a foot away from the throttlebody, and you would put the bov before the MAF wich would allow you to vent to the atmosphere, since then the amount of air getting to the MAF is correct.

or just record yourself going "PSHHHH" on mp3, put it on a CD, and play it in your car.

It would be if your trying to look cool, but if you can get some more power by recirculating it, then I would ge the power Instead of trying to be down. That's just my $.02

But I think the Z32 MAF works and that would be a nice upgrade.

Why would u want everyone to know you have a BOV?
