How to turbo charge the KA24e for cheap!

For those of you looking to turbo charge the KA24e, you can take the Nissan cast turbo manifold and turbo from a Z18ET. This engine was designed on NAPS-Z technology engines through out the 70's and mid 80's in Japan. A NAPS-Z port is square but is compatible with the round exhaust ports of the KA series engines and it bolts right up, "You may want to weld and machine the ports so that they are round". But you cannot take KA parts and bolt them to NAPS-Z heads. The square port is larger than the ports of the KA. It will also work with all EGR and O2 parts, the technology was almost the same. You can purchase a z18et for under $900.00 from a salvage yard in Japan, or have it ordered from Canada they were sold out there also. Believe me you can scrap the engines and use the turbo, for the price it's a deal. This is a great item to have for people that need smog excemption turbo's especially in Cali. When a mechanic looks at the cast iron manifold, a mechanic will assume that it is a stock product for that engine.
Just to make the research easier for you guys I left a pick of a z18et install, so you can see for yourself the manifold works.

I know the 8 plugs look funny, but that is the prior technology before KA it was called NAPS-Z. The other 4 plugs on the exhaust end were strictly for EPA, smog emissions. Honestly I don't think you will get more than 30 HP on that little turbo. But if you were to add a bigger turbo and an intercooler you could do something cool with the manifold.

This manifold works great for bolt on Turbonetics T3 connections.

Well I own a z24i "88 hardbody" NAPS-z dual port in NA it only pumps 106HP at the crank. Believe me NAPS-Z engines are not performance pieces at all. The crossflow smog emission head's are spherical, and the pistons are gouged. Deepending on the displacement a NAPS-Z would carry a displacement of (8:1) and/or (8:5). The heads of all NAPS-Z carry the same valve train"all USDM's" that I know of have only "8 valves". Presumably due to the technology "the JDM" would be the same, with cam lobe and duration, and degree in valve and spring. In theory when comparing the displacement and the fact that a z18et had MPI instead of DPI it probably only pumped 95 HP @ the crank in NA, the turbo brought performance to the engine at 122 HP @ the crank from what I have heard"that is presumable added HP. There are no intercoolers so added boosting cannot be determined as to how much more PSI you can get from a small turbo like that. Most older nestalgic Nissan turbo manifold's came with what is called the 4bolt, square port, T3 connection, "I could be wrong though". With an intercooler and boost controller you could probably squeeze 10 more PSI from the stock turbo.

I believe they run 3psi stock. But with intercooling and boost control you can probably get an extra 10 PSI out of the turbo. Since it is a small Turbo it will probably spool really fast on the KA24e. The engine came from a car called the Datsun Bluebird, also known as a 910 series car. You can also find these engines in Australia, I just found that out yesterday.

www.dimequarterly.com you may find one in there for sale adds. If not you can call Osaka Motors in Canada they may be able to order the engine. The only problem with getting these engines is that they are not in demand. They are very nestalgic, if you do enough research you will find one though.

I beg to differ from this. I have been building Nissan truck motors for a while, and I know for a fact that with the proper planning and know-how, you can pump out 197 to the wheels NA. This truck runs 14's in the quarter mile with serious traction issues!
