Kouki 180sx taillights on a 240sx convertable

I'm a big fan of those 180sx kouki lights, but the 240sx convertable has a different tail light style than all other 240sx's. If I were to find a 240sx convertable with backend damage I would have to buy a rear clip anyway (find somethin cheap at an auction). Would a 240sx fastback (or any rear clip for that matter) bolt onto the convertable, so I could put in koukis?

ummmmm, i think that would be one hell of a custom fab job. if i'm not mistaken, i think the rear of the hatch is part of the unibody. therefore, no swaping body panels. you'd probably have to cut it halfway through the rear wheel wells or cut off the back half of the trunk. anybody else got any suggestions?

Sil40's right your would need the whole rear half from Japan to get it done.

Thanks for the replys. Are the brake lights the same as the S13 They look pretty close to what is shown here on veilside's site: http://www.veilside.com/veilsideusa/frames.html Although they look better in that picture.....

Maybe I'll go for the silvia S13 look and get a full s13 clip so I can have a S13 convertable.

Post away.

thx

i think that the S13 silvia tail lights are the same as the ones on the usdm S13 coupe (possible exception is that the jdm tails have clear turn signals?). i think an convertible (S13) silvia would look hot. one thing about the front clip, though: there isn't a very high likelyhood that it would come with the headlights, grille, bumper, and body panels intact. not to say that it's impossible, but it's pretty rare. your best bet may be to source the front end body parts separately...

THanks again. I would like something unique but well done. I think the silvia logos would add a nice touch too. I'm thinking my best bet is to find a 240sx manual convertable w/ front end damage. that front end kit seems to run about $1000. I'm also thinking black top and black paint job as in the veilside picture. Do JDM S13 front conversions come with a good looking bumper that will allow good airflow across an intercooler (future upgrade) I want the looks but I dont really wanna go for a body kit.

BTW do they make S13 convertables in japan?

Also, what is the story on RB25det swaps. Are they easy to do? I like the potential of that engine. 400-500 hp w/ basically nothing but a turbo upgrade. I think an S13 convertable would look bad *** but still have a somewhat sleeper look.

good luck w/that. if u didn't know, ALL S13 convertibles are automatic (from the factory). however u have two options available to u:

1. pick up a cheap ka24de manual tranny and swap it in, or
2. if u get a front clip (w/manual tranny), than ~B*A*M~! there's ur manual...

i would say i doubt it, only because the silvias/180's came stock w/side mount IC's. however, i've often seen from companies selling front end conversion parts where u could choose a stock bumper or an aftermarket one w/ur purchase. ur best bet is to look around and see who offers what....

ummm, methinks so. i think that a company named autech(sp?) made a few S13 convertibles (and i'm pretty sure they're responsible for the S15 varietta convertible, too). actually, there is a video here (look in "general" or "off topic") with a gold S13 convertible (and it's a one-via conversion, too ).

from my (limited) understanding, they are not extremely difficult. one thing i'm aware of is that u need a custom driveshaft. i'd say search for more specific info (as there is much of it around).
I think an S13 convertable would look bad ***
and i would agree!
