Building a SCCA Autox car (ST class)
#76
Thanks you sir!
Ok, so I think the next mod is going to be some light weight wheels. The best price I have been able to find so far on a set of 17x7's (5x114 bolt pattern) is the Kosei K1 TS's on Tirerack. They come in at 14.1 lbs, and a price of $784 for the set with free shipping.
Now I'm on a pretty tight budget with this car, so anyone know of any better prices I can get on a set of light weight wheels?

Ya, I wish the offset was a little more negative. BTW, can't you use up to a 5mm spacer on a 240sx and still use stock studs?
#79
5mm spacers won't do a thing, imo you'll want 20mm at least. but you can acutely use about 10mm safely with stock studs. i think i have have a set of 10mm spacers somewhere, if you're interested just cover the shipping and you can have them.

5mm spacers are the most I can use, and at lease they will give me a little more clearance with the coilover.

Sorry for being off the grid lately guys, I've been in the process of buying a new house, which I just finished . Got a house and I move in next week , and don't worry there WILL be a house warming party . Anyway, last event wasn't bad, lots of fun, but I coned away my best run of 34.6 and had to settle for second best of 35.4 (with a pax or 893, I haven't been in the 800's in forever but a guy in a XP Lotus freakin CRUSHED the pax score), here's the vid:
Just ordered some camber bolts for more camber in the front for the next event, I also hope to have a set of light weight wheels (probably Kosei T1's) before the next event on Dec 5th. The series ends in Dec also, and 1st and 2nd are pretty much locked up, but it looks like I am in a 3-way battle for 3rd so we will see what happens...

New wheels are in, and they don't look half bad:
Kosei K1 TS's, 17x7 +40 (ya I know, not a great offset), and reason for buying: 14.1lbs each. So light even my 100lb girlfriend can lift them!!!
These are 3lbs lighter (each) than my old wheels, I'll see how they handle at the last event of the year on Dec 6th (hopefully the camber bolts will be in before then too)

So I went out to the NASA Hyperdrive event at PIR yesterday, my first track event. All I have to say is WOW it was fun. We did a 1.5 mile track with only 9 cars for 20 minute session, so there was plenty of room to run, however since the hyperdrive is a "learning" group they didn't record any lap times at all . However my instructor said I had a lot of talent (probably because of my autox experience) and that I was one of the best beginners he had ever seen. I'd definitely like to do this again sometime if money allows.
This was obviously very different from autox, learning to look ahead is a little different, and braking-shifting-turning is much different at the higher speeds, especially in a 240sx since it is so easy to lock up the rear wheels.
No in car video since it was my first time, but here are a few pics:

So for some reason the video of my fastest run this past Sunday is broken sad.gif, so here is a video of my second fastest (only a tenth slower). And if you watch closely you can see me hit a cone too wink.gif

I'll give you guys the official series standings once they are up, but my performance was not my best at this past event, so I'm pretty sure I did not place 3rd

Are those 205's or 215's?
Also if you paid the $196 from tirerack I think you kinda screwed yourself, unless you got a deal then it's understandable.
Enkei RPF1's
16x7+25 weight 13.7lbs and are $186
16x8+15 is 15.5lbs and cost $196

And the tires are 225's, widest allowed in the class.

It really doesn't matter in street tire classes. Once you are in a tire class that's when it matters. You definitely could have gone with 16x8 no one would have cared. I will say you have much better tire choices with 17". so good call
