cut springs

ok, so i helped chuki funk put his cut springs on, took a little while because of cheap *** tools...and spring compressor, we ended up not even using the spring compressor and played it dangerous. heres a pic of the front drop. you gotta scrutinize it a little bit to really notice the drop, but its there.

People usually cut springs for that lowered "more aggressive" look. Or to lower the center of gravity so it will supposedly handle better.
By cutting springs, you alter the engineered spring rates of the spring, specifically designed to provide a certain ride quality with respect to the shocks and weight of the car. When you cut the springs, you jeopardize the car's suspension support, and you will definitely get negative camber. As far as performance goes, yes you will get a lower center of gravity, but it's definitely not worth ***king up the car's suspension and handling capabilities. Exactly how well do you need to perform on public roads? If youre going to the track, just get some aftermarket springs with engineered spring rates.
By cutting springs, you are sacrificing the car's mechanical condition for appearance. But of course, it is your car and you can do whatever you want with it. I'm just looking out for you.
As for blown shocks handling well, I highly doubt that. The car needs shocks to dampen the bumps on the road. It must be a pretty bouncy ride....

I have had friends cut springs and come away with a lot of problems.
I am glad they are doing well for you though. Keep an eye on them.

when you go over some potholes and one of your ******** climbs back into your abdomen, let me know. It has happened to my cousin before. Seriously though, don't cut your springs unless you do some major MAJOR geometry and some drafting and you figure out EXACTLY how much to cut it so that it does not F*** up your ride.

Now I remember what happened. It was on a 89 golf. The springs were cut and they went OCTAGONAL yep they were no longer round on the top. They took after the form of the spring hat and went to ****.
