Question My dilemma

So heres the deal....the 240sx is my dream car....well not superb dream car, but it ranks as a car i really want...so the time has come for me to get rid of my craptastic sunfire of doom and move into the real world....

I've been following the car for awhile, so i know quite a bit about it, and i would easily say im mechanically inclined...so im not worried about working on them....

Anyways heres my options...

I can get a 97 240sx LE..keep the KA, rebuild the motor and turbo the beast and obtain vast amounts of torque... or

I found a 93' 240 SE for 750 which im sure i can talk down ....minor front damage but i dont really mind because ill be replacing parts.....use the 8 grand from the loan for the 97 and just do a crap load of work on the car....get the sr swap...suspension mods....you know the drill.....

The problem is i met a guy with a 91...and he says that he hates it cause the chassis is so old on the car and the suspension is dieing off....i dunno if its as big as a deal...since this 93 is an auto...and id be doing the 5 speed swap...so id be sure no one over-revved the motor....and the guy told me that i should get an auto because on manuals the back end lifts up or something?

Just asking everyones 2 cents on what would probably end up working out better for me...i need a practical car for the next couple of years.

It should be cheaper to insure a 93 than a 97, that would make up for some of the extra repairs and parts replacements.

But I think if I had the same choice, I'd want to go with the vehicle that has been treated the best for the longest part of its operating life. Especially since you need to get several years' use out of it.

Well the good thing about the 97 is the fact that it doesnt have a damaged front end haha....and 67,000 on the odometer....

Cons....18 inch chrome wheels... -_-

well Im more of an s14 man myself. honestly though, depending on your power goals, building that KA-T could prove just as expensive as the SR swap.
I think your really comparing apples and oranges. besides the fact that they look completely different, the s14, has different weight distribution, longer wheel base, and a wider stance.
although there is no doubt that an s13 project is cheaper. I think you just need to really sit down with a calculator and decide what your budget allows.
p.s. don't listen to the guy about the automatic, he's just bitter because he dosen't have a five speed .
