My friend's car was totalled last night. One of his tires blew out and was shredded and gone in a second. He slowed the car down and came to a complete stop on the same lane. He turns his emergency lights on and calls his insurance to ask whether he should move the car to the slow lane or stay where he's at (fast lane) and the insurance tells him to stay put because he might cause more accidents trying to change lanes. So he's out of the car prepping to take out the damaged wheel. So all these other cars avoid the lane he's in because they see the emergency lights. This dumbass woman rams my friend's car from behind.
CHP was yelling at my friend for not pulling over to the slow lane and said that it was his fault the woman ran into him.
Mind you that this happened at a 3lane bridge and a lot of traffic passes by at the time the accident happened. '
Maybe my friend could've made a better decision by pulling over to the slow lane, but while the car is slowing down and a lot of traffic is whizzing by you, changing two lanes over wouldn't be an easy task. All the other drivers avoided him, then there are those people who just DO NOT pay attention to the road in front of them. She could've slowed down at least. Damn.

My friend just sent me pics. He said it looks worst in person. I thought he was hit from behind, more on the rear quarter panel

damn that sux man... sorry to hear about your friend's loss. As a precautionary note though, if you guys ever find yourself in a similar situation, or if you ever end up on the side of the road changing a tire, make sure you always keep a constant lookout up the road (especially at night). Even in the breakdown lane, people are always talking on their phone or even worse sometimes drunk so they're not expecting stationary objects (e.g. cars or YOURSELF) and often hit them. Just watch a couple episodes of "Real TV" and you're bound to see some poor guy stopped on a road somewhere get rear ended or hit by some car flying by doing like 80...
