Is the Viscous LSD a good LSD for autocross?

VLSD is great for auto x.

welded or 2 way , is just to much for auto x.

In a recent issue of SCC , they did lap time test with a VLSD , Open Diff , 2way and a 1.5 way.

seems that for lap times that VLSD and Open pulled the fastest lap times.

anything welded or more then a 1way , is only good for drifting IMO.

I know race cars use 1.5-2 way LSD's , but we dont have race cars so...

yea vlsd is good for drag and auto x only.... personaly im looking at a 1.5way becuase ill be doing a mixture of both..

actually ill be doing more auto x in the sccaphilly region becuase although i love to drift i cant drive 6 hours away just to slide man due to military things.... luckly there are some events closer now coming up.

your being a little to harsh on the VLSD.

its a good all around unit.

your few bad experiences shouldnt tarnish the thoughts of others giving it a try since everyone has thier own driving style.

Biggamehit is right in regards to this issue. A VLSD will suit just fine for autocross and will probably give you the best times. If you plan on autocrossing seriously, especially with bodies such as the SCCA or NASA you're not going to want something as brutally locking as a HLSD or even a clutch 2 way due to the fact that the tracks are all low speed not hitting anything above 63-65 on the longest straight, and low speed turns, plus an anxious right foot leads to spin outs or slides which, in the SCCA, can get you black flagged for intentional recklessness.

I would say stick with the VLSD, when running on the autocross tracks, it's not going to have enough time or abuse to heat up to the point where you're going to lose the positive traction that a limited slip is used for and if it's stock on your vehicle, or if you can get one at a lower price, then you are also saving money, which is what Solo II (and soon-to-be Solo III) are all about.
