RB20 is a great motor. It has smaller pistons than most, but is capable of a fair amount of power. They usually dyno between 200-210 HP stock to the rear wheels which gives you about 30HP over the SR. You can get em to 300HP fairly easily here in the states. They're only $1750 right now.....damn good price.

Whats the SR20 run at price wise? Also any chance you are gonna be doing another deal like this during the summer or afterwards when I'm gonna have the money to afford it? Also, whats labor cost on a swap like this? Seeing as its the first time I've ever had something like this done, I'd like someone who knows what they are doing do it so I can learn a little.

Red top - $2500
Black top - $3250
I charge $1250 to do the install. I know, I know, cost went up, but so did gas and the economy sucks lol. I will run specials like this. I run em about every 2 months for 10 or so days.

Just wondering, whats the difference between red top and black top? Sorry for all the questions, trying to learn as much as possible before I get my car.

So umm if the RB25DET kicks out 65 rwhp more than the black top for $500 dollars less... why would I get the SR20 again? Oh wait that was your point wasn't it. The weight ratio thing (read the info on your site), would it be about the same for a s14? I think I'm leaning in that direction... Now to work 40 hours a week this summer to afford the damn thing.

How much does an RB swap usually cost... engine, mounts, tranny, ECU, drive-shaft, etc? Also, like everyother project I've worked on... keeping AC is a must So, having said that, will I be able to keep AC with the RB swap?
thanks,

What did you hit a 12.3 with? I was hitting 12.6 without touching boost, rev limiter etc... which is pretty good I'd say.
Clips right now are on sale for $2750, driveshaft costs anywhere from $200-$400 to make. You can keep AC on anything, but I think you may need custom AC lines......otherwise be damn careful about taking out the lines to begin with and put them back carefully.....should work just fine, but AC is a power robbber.

I'm not a know it all on SR engines, but I'll say what I think I know about this....anyone else please correct me, remember, I'm the RB guy lol, not SR.
91-94 SR (S13) were red tops. 95-98 (S13) - yes, still made till 98 in Japan) were black top. 95-98 (S14) were black top.
Black top adds a T28 turbo over the smaller T25 on the red top and they also have variable valve timing control (VVTC). I think those are the only main differences, anyone else, please add your info or correct mine.

I think I know why we're confused. There was a red and blacktop S13. These motors came in the 180SX. Since the 180SX was built until 1998, it was being produced at the same time as the newer (95-98) Silvia's. The 95-98 Silvia's got a newer version of the blacktop, rated at 220HP and 205 ft. lbs., while the 180SX retained the 205HP and 187ft. lbs S13 blacktop version.
In your HP figures, you used the 180SX HP figures to the Silvia's HP figures. Basically there were 2 blacktop motors being produced at the same time. You mentioned yourself what the differences were also, bigger turbo, and VTC timing.

I got a question for yah Night. Others can jump in if they wish.
If I buy the 240 (Prolly 93). Is there any upgrades or mods I can do to the engine/drivetrain b4 getting the RB25, and then keep these mods for the RB. For example : new air filter, 3" exhaust, FMIC kit, Spark plugs, Clutch, Flywheel, LSD, Oil Filter, Fuel Pump. Will any of these be able to transfer from the KA to the RB , when the swap is done ?
Thanks ahead of time

The 3" exhaust will work but as far as everything else I am almost positive they won't work. Well the FMIC will but the piping would need to be redone. As far as everything else the RB25 is compatible with the 300ZX NA for some parts like the ones you mentioned. Night would need to tell you exactly which ones.
