I have a HOLE in my thumbnail from that happening the other day. Motor hadn't run in a YEAR.. I hit it with an impact on the crank (being lazy and wanting to see if it would turn... I figured the worst that would happen was I maybe bent the crank.. it was a junk motor til that point anyways). Motor roared to life and one of the teeth from behind the fan went through my thumbnail and most of my thumb. Made me go
But the good news is I turned around and sold the motor.

you two take the cake on this one.
the worst i've done is busted up my knuckles trying to loosen one of the bolts on a stater and punched the engine as the bolt broke free.
fortunately it was during the winter and outside so there was no need for me to put ice on it.

lol that's a minor injury for me... I get a tetanus shot at least once a year from cars "biting" me.
As of right now? The current injury count is pretty low...
1. Hole in left thumbnail from crank incident.
2. Metal shard in left middle finger from who knows what.
3. Another metal shard in right pointer finger.. no, I will NOT wear gloves.
4. Feet bandaged because I got brake fluid on my toes... I'm VIOLENTLY allergic to brake fluid... one day I will keep that in mind when I'm working around the stuff. I don't know why.. it makes me break out and makes my skin burn really badly. I'm really sensitive to it.
Injuries over the years that are notable, in no particular order:
- snapped my right pointer finger on a timing belt in a honda
- lost an entire nail when I got my nails done (pretty girly acrylic tips), then realized I needed to change my brake pads. My nail got caught in the rotor and the whole thing pulled off. Went back to salon the next day to get them taken off. Haven't had them since.
- Broken right foot because an engine dropped a little too close.
- Dislocated left shoulder... I got my arm stuck up in the dashboard of a honda and decided to jerk myself free.... stuuuuupid.
- Zapped the hell out of myself when jump starting my old truck. Leaning on metal fenders when the truck is turned over is a bad, bad idea.
- More burns and busted knuckles than I can count.
- I have a cool line scar around my left thumb... I was under a car that the front end was cut off of, using a sawzall... I reached up for a socket and one of the freshly cut edges dug in and sliced my skin and a couple of tendons.. hence the reason you will never see me use my left thumb... I really can't.
- below my thumb on my right hand, on the top of my hand, is a scar about the size of a dollar bill.. it wraps around my hand and goes down my wrist... That was the day I learned I am violently sensitive to brake fluid.
- on my left wrist are two large spots and a bunch of smaller spots.. they are scars.. Battery blew up. The darkest spot is where the skin and muscle was eaten away almost to the bone.
- On my left bicep I have two lines scarred in... I was reaching down to pull the belt off an air conditioning condensor on a honda that had just pulled into the garage... the header was still pretty ****ing hot.
There's a ton more, but I'm tired of typing... 8 years of building cars and my arms look like a warzone. Most of it is covered with tattoos though.

lol wow i do give you credit that you just keep doing what you want lol.
yea being a mechanic its normal to always have some sort of cut on your hands but damn your injuries are not normal haha.
also sucks bout the brake fluid just if you ever have to handle brake fluid just have water with you since blrake fluid is hydroscopic water will wash it right off and will get it off you the fastest.
anyway good luck with working on cars and never give up

lol it will take a LOT more than some bumps and bruises to keep me from working on cars... it's in my blood... literally, not figuratively.. that commercial makes me laugh.. the one about oil and water not mixing, and then you see the guy bust his knuckle and wipe it off with a dirty shop towel.. "But oil and blood do". Cracks me up.
And I'll be honest... a majority of my injuries are from not having the proper tools and just barging on through anyways. Definitely taught me a lesson. a $200 engine joist would have saved me a $3000 broken foot, and poor planning/not thinking is the culprit for most of them. It's a learning process. Most of those are old, and now it's more or less limited to cuts and scrapes, with the occasional real "OWIE", like my thumb currently. But again, that was me not thinking and being lazy, as I mentioned. Had I used a ratched and extension instead of the damn impact, I don't think I would have a hole in my thumb right now.
But, they are all lessons well learned, and I treat my scars like my tattoos... only the scars have WAY better stories than the tattoos.

i think thats a hangover. lol. but yea i have a nice scar on my left wrist that makes me look super emo, i was grinding rons upper control arm deal on his Q when the grinder slipped and put a nice deep gash on my arm. best part was that it burned the wound so it didnt bleed. everything else over the years has healed pretty well.
