well . . .if I want to be able to hit a man-sized target from 800 yards. . . the M1 will HAVE to do because you didn't put the option for an M16 . . .

However, if I want to crawl through sand and mud, shoot underwater, and then be able to sell said weapon for 3 grand to some stupid mil-head who thinks he's Billy-Badass . . .then . . .AK-47 it is . . .
