weak fuel pump or normal?
i notice whenever i release the pressure form the gas tank when refilling, the car runs really strong at first. but once the fuel gauge goes down to near e, the car becomes a bit sluggish. weird considering the car should be lighter due to some 12 gallons less weight from the gas. this cant be normal right?

Prolly is a dirty filter. My car did the EXACT same thing. Does it also seems to pcik up more throtle response when you fill it? if it does, get a 300zx Filter, they allow more fuel and they get more response. Aslo, ugrading that fuel pump wouldn't do damage

replaced the filter a year ago, but ive been running good ol economy grade 87
i just slap on a pressure guage in the fuel line to make sure the fuel pressure regulator is working right?

A larger filter does not mean more response. You can only achieve that with a FPR or larger injectors.
Sure they can support a larger volume of fuel but unless you have an upgraded pump, injectors or FPR it doesnt do anything.

Everyone saying that a Z32 gave you power - your *** is lying to your brain.
Going Z32 filter isn't wrong, but it isn't a miracle either. You just put a clean, new filter on a car that was probably running a years-clogged possibly OEM from the factory filter.
My guess here is fuel filter too, BTW.
