Solution To Throttle Response!!
we always complain about the throttle response. guys always talk about the ecu tip in thing. i think i figured it out.
on the end of the throttle cable (on the throttle body wheel)
there are the two lines that open and close "flap"
at the end of these two (my car is a 90 so a 91 may be diffrent)
cables are two nuts.
loosen up the nut closest the front of the car and thighten the second.
nissan put extra slack in the throttle cable so people wouldnt rear-end others on accident.
tighten up the excess slack to the point where idle is still normal.
tightning too much wont let the throttle body close all the way.
it works!!!!
i did it earlier today and the response is incredible
neck snapping response in first and second gear.
my girl was havin a ball blipin the throttle earlier.
if you look there is like a half inch or so of play. get rid of that and you'll be happy campers.

13 and 14mm is what i used

Do you know if this is the same on 91, if so how much slack do I take off? Here is a pic, I dont know if you can see it well enough to tell but here it is anyway. thanx

check it out...
go test the slack on the throttle cable(s)
there is probaly alot. just tighten it to the point where its got about an eighth of an inch or so.
let the car warm-up and adjust while the motor is on. that way you can tell when the lines are too tight.
when they're too tight the idle will not go back to normal cuz the throttle body "flap" will be open slightly. letting air slip past.
the single cam and dual cam should be prety much the same. my honda has slack too, as probaly most cars..
don't worry about the idle being high while messin with the cable. its just cuz you're messin with the cable. if you have to unclip cables to have more room to spin wrenches then just do so. but after adjustment clip em' back to be sure you didn't tighten too much.
see how that works.

Well imme get this straight. Take the cable closest to the front of the car and loosen it. Then tighten the second one and that's it?

there's two NUTS.
loosen the FRONT nut.
tighten the second.
i might have typ-oed last night
on my car there is two cables. i'm not sure how it is on DOHC cars. but the concept is the same.
don't blame me if you rear-end someone!

what do you mean?
its like with your foot off the gass coasting in second gear, when you give it gas the car resopnds immeditly(sp)
give it a good stab and the car will surge foward.
as far as shifting goes its still normal. just depends on how fast you want to accelerate after the clutch is out.
i did it on MR.Strongs car (auto Stanza) and even with the slushbox the response is better.
it wont affect driveability

I had done this before and ended up loosening it just because I didnt like the feel of it, especially while going throught tighter turns, the weight of my foot would be too hard on the throttle and would end up opening throttle without me even really pushing...lead to a few near spinouts...but yes it does work.
