polishing engine parts

i was at autozone a few days ago and guy there was talikng about polishing the crank on his engine. on car domain a guy has a polished oil pump and another a polished throttle body.
it seems that what started as a simple head port and polish has become more show than anything. but my question is if anyone has seen any real performance gains from a polished tb, maf, intake tubing and so forth. i don't question the head porting and polishing but what about the rest and any otheres you might know about?

i think theyre talking about polishing the internals, so you wouldnt see it anyways so it aint show. like inside the throttle body, to give smoother air flow. you'd usually polish the crank bearing surfaces after a tear down of the block. less friction = easier to rev.

i agree with you, it should be the internals which is why i agree with the head porting and polishing. but if you look on ebay there is a polished tb that soposedly increases hp by about 10hp. it looks like it's chromed, so my point is that this would start that "chorme makes you faster" mentality.

they should be bored out like 5-10mm, just being chrome doesnt up your hp unless your a ricer...then you get like 20whp

nuf said, i have a spare tb and intake manifold that i can bore to 65mm. i'll probaly have it installed by the end of oct. and will let you guys know if it's worth doing.

They are talking about something else well at least i hope so,There is a type of "polishing" that you can do to the internals that makes them way more heat resistant and extremely less friction and alot stronger,I have heard of people doing it to their differential gears and transmission internals,It makes the stuff last forever pretty much,Like the gears in the diff will never break and i think i saw somewhere that they could run it with either very little or no diff oil in them.

There's polishing the internals for better flow and less restriction. Then there is coatings which is for less friction and heat dissipation

nice to see input is still coming.

i must however regretfuly admit that i never got around to having my tb boared out. i had planed to have it done by max boar but never got to it.

so now if anyone has had it done i must ask if it's worth the $100 to have it done. surely there will be some gains but are they noticable enough to say that it's worth the money.

there was a website i had on my bookmarks until it got wiped. you could send your TB there and they would bore it like 10mm and polish it, and put a new butterfly flap in it for like 50 dollars i think.

being that i have a spare engine, i wanted to put these parts to use. so i don't see myself buying any more parts until i can post and hoplfuly sell the spares that i have.

also i don't realy want more hp. more than anything i wanted a 65mm or so tb just to have one. i know alot of you guys are in school still and don't have the money to buy all the things you want. right now i do, but i also have a long list of things to fix, install or get rid of.

unfortunetly my job takes up most of my time and don't have much time to do any of the above.

thanx for the replies though.

ive heard polishing pistons helps prevent premature carbon buildup. makes sense to me. oh and like they said porting intakesand throttle bodies will help with better air flow.
