ka24de head on ka24e bottom block?

I have a ka24e motor and I'm guessing the valve is bent, so I gotta replace the head. I was wondering if I can put on a ka24de head onto my ka24e bottom block. Will the dual cam head fit onto the single cam bottom block? And, if it doesn't do I have to do anything to my car so the DOCH motor will run? Like the wiring (just plug n play?) and power steering (I have to switch that to the driver side??) any recommendations? ( I want to put a sr20but can't afford it yet.)

Also, how much can I get a compression tester for and where? I wanna see that the motor is in good working condition before I buy it.

the head swap can be done and it has been done but it takes a lot of parts searching... try the search button and you will find information on it...

as far as swapping in a complete dohc motor you need the wiring harness from the car that the motor came out of as well as the ecu... here again search and all of the information is there ...

You will need the whole KA24de front assembly, it bolts differently than the sohc.
You can still use your sohc ecu as long as all the parts to the head are OBD1, and you are using the OBD0 distributor.

you dont need to replace the head. Just get the valve replaced (and while your there tell them to shave the head for you) It will cost less to get it fixed then trying to put a DE head on it Just my 2 cents

Damn if its that much cheaper ill just stick with that. I was told I had to replace the head, that's where I'd figured that I should try to put a dohc head or try to put put a dohc motor in it (which ever that would be cheaper). I can probably drop in the motor myself but can't put the head on so ill have to take it to a shop for that.

do the motor swap if you have the ability... i would say that will be your best bet... you should be able to get the motor harness and ecu for inbetween 400 and 600 bucks...

I'm thinking of the swap instead but I would have to get the whole front assembly of the dohc? Would that be hard to put that? I'm only beginning on working on my car so i can't do much. Also, the obd-0 ends at 90 or 91, right? I would like to get a motor with low mileage (motor from newer model, less mileage most likely) but I'd probably have to do much more work. I'm not trying to buy a rebuilt/remanufactured motor because at that price I could get a blacktop clip for 1500.

here is what i would do in your case...
find a ka24de engine wiring harness and ecu... to make things easy on you i would go with 91 to 94 motors... get the power steering lines as well to make things easier... install the motor harness and ecu into the car...

if you go with a newer motor you will need to convert the car over to obd2 systems...a lot harder to do... stick with the older motors... you wont find low milage motor but you will make things much easier on you... and since you have just started working on your car this would be the easiest swap for you to do in the beginning... get the motor in there and get it running... drive the car for a while...

then again if you can get a black top clip for 1500 bucks you could save save save until you have enough cash to buy it and then swap in the sr20...

yea, i'll probably try to stick with a older model since it's much easier to do. i'll try to find one with low mileage if possible. i probably wouldnt get a sr20det til next year cuz the place that i could get it for that price is in sacramento. and i'm planning to move down there once my lease to my apartment is over. so right now, i'll just stick with the ka motor. but all i would need for the ka24de swap is wiring harness, power steering and ecu, right? some other place is telling me that i would also need that model's tranny, whole cluster. i can leave the a/c where its at right now?

if you want ac then you will need to have custom lines made... the 2 compressors use different fittings... but they run 38 for one and 57 for the other one here at a local shop... the transmissions will work on either motor... yes you will need to change the tach but not the whole cluster... there is also a plug next to the ecu that you will need... since you are in ca why not check out nissan only wreckers... the link is on this forum somewhere... others can give it to you...they know everything you need for the swap... they might even have everything you need...

if you have more questions ask away or catch me on aim... wikd24d...

Right now, I'm in oregon and I gotta wait til next april or so before I go back to cali. the only internet access i have is on my phone, its speed is probably similar to dial up, so it takes very long to type, loading the page takes for ever.
