nah not overheating... The things that could possibly cause overheating include:

bad head gasket; the exhaust gasses get into the water jackets and do not allow for proper cooling

low level of coolant

stuck closed thermostat

need for a new water pump

possibly fan belt slippage, but on my '92 the electric fan comes on thermostat controlled.

If I were you i'd put in that lower mileage engine and buy it a new clutch, water pump, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Check under its cam cover. If that top plate is there between the cam gears, remove it and discard.

Then, with your 200,005 mile engine out and on the ground, find out what went wrong with it for personal knowledge and send the head off for a good rebuild and PnP for use later.

I'm not saying the timing chains are definitely what's wrong with your motor, but it easily could be. If you had a bad rod bearing you'd hear more a 'rapping' sound that would get louder the more work you made the motor do. I just went through replacing my timing kit twice, (twice because the first rebuild kit i bought was garbage) and the sound i heard was, well, the sound you imagine you would hear as a chain gets dragged along a metal surface at a high speed.

guys i know you all said it could the timing chain but I still dont think so.. how would the timing chain make my whole bottom end shake from the front of the engine all the back to the transmission case!. and it was shakeing like a mo fo!!!!. I would still have to say harmonic balancer still or my crank is messed up. Anyone else think so?

only reason why i guess haaromic balancer cuz on my friends car wasn't a 240 tho.. his harmonic balancer went bad and his car did the excat same thing my 240 did. made loud annoying sounds, over-heated, wouldn't idle right, ect.. ect..

If its a real VIOLENT vibration its prolly not the harmonic balancer. If the balancer went bad it would feel kinda harsh but wouldnt shake the whole car. Im not even 100% sure our pulley has a dampener pressed into it. Violent vibrations could be caused by maybe a ripped clutch disk? if a chunk flew off when you dropped the clutch that time, that would definitely cause a bad vibration. Other than that it *could* be a bad main/rod bearing but that doesnt typically cause a vibration you described... and you would hear a loud knocking noise and your motor would last for about 10 minues before seizing.

edit: when was the last time you replaced your plugs/wires or anything ignition? If one cyl wasnt firing it would be underpowered and have a serious lump. still not overheat tho.

well the clutch is brand new... I took it easy on the clutch for 410 miles then i open it up and did a burnout. u said main/rod bearings cant' be that either cuz my engine never seized up it still starts up fine. anti-freeze and oil and all clear and good. nothing is leaking. has new spark plugs and wires. i never replaced the coil or distriboutor tho.... okay another friend came me another idea... this friend said check your vibration damper but isn't that the same thing as the harmonic balancer.
thanks post back everyone.

Last time I checked, break in time for clutches is 500 miles at least.

sure. but it doesn't matter its 400 between 500 miles. dont think its really going to hurt anything.

the ka24 e in my car has a rod knock that hasent locked up yet and it was ran for quite a while until the guy junked it... i have started mine to check a few things and it shakes like hell... a spun bearing will not lock it up right away... it will run till you break the rod that is knocking... lots of damage when that happens... but it will run... i wont start mine again till the motor is rebuilt...

Hey everyone!!! i got my engine torn apart over the weekend while it was sooo warm out. I finally know what's wrong with it now and what I need to replace. every single valve was burnt on the head and rod number 2 is damaged, also hamonic balancer is broken. so going to rebuild block, head, new balancer, new chain, pulleys and belts.
