Yeah, I've got a good bit of money in the SOHC so far and I'm happy with the results. I've been talking with ASP because they sent the wrong sized belts with the order. Once that's straightened out, I'll advance the timing and install the pulley. After speaking with Don over at PDM-Racing, the only cam available that won't require milling of the cam towers is the C.406 so that's probably the cam I'll be going with. I've been trying to locate the NISMO adjustable cam gear so I'll be able to move the powerband up around 500 rpms and MAYBE gain around 2-3whp on the top end with the expense of some low end. Does anyone have experience with the adjustable gears on out single slammers? Also found a guy locally who specializes in tuning cars with Apexi SAFC on the dyno and gets them at wholesale prices, so I might be purchasing one of those before the cam. Just to give you guys an update.

Hey you guys, just wanted to give you all an update. I'll be taking the truck into the shop next monday to have the underdrive pulley installed along with advancing the timing to run 93 octane. Nissan has supposedly put the adjustable cam gear on back order and I finally gave up trying to acquire one in the past few weeks. I'll try to swing by a dyno on the same day to get an idea of where I'm at with the horsepower. Should be interesting.

UPDATE:

The ASP underdrive pulley was installed and the timing advanced roughly 2 degrees. I can honestly say that the truck doesn't necessarily feel that much quicker, but stronger. I was very pleased with the results. Now I've got the funds for an ecu tune. I'm leaning towards a tune such as gabe's stage 4 NA tune (hybridaka.com). He supposedly claims 10whp for this tune and possibly more to be found with a wideband and dyno time. With my job, I'm always out of town, so burning my own eprom is not an option. Would any of your guys happen to know someone on this board that might be able to help me out?

Sorry for reviving a dead thread, but I just wanted to give you guys an update on the truck. Tomorrow UPS will be delivering a brand new, Nismo R4 Cam that will be installed April 18-19th. In addition, I'm having a local driveshaft shop make a lightweight aluminum unit to replace the heavy stock two piece unit. The ecu is being shipped off to have hybridka's stage 3 NA tune burnt and installed. I don't know if I can get the adjustable cam gear from Nismo delivered here in time, nor do I know if it's even worth it. I've been trying to follow the suggestions from you guys and seriously hope this puts me in the 150-160whp range with the KA24E. Still more to come this summer, aka custom sheet metal intake manifold from DJSpec (nico boards).

Yeah it definately seems like he does a good job with the manifolds. I had the day off work yesterday and took the opportunity to remove more weight from the truck. I was able to remove the tailgate, sound deadening material, speakers, radio, etc. I've already removed the A/C carpet, fender linings, etc. I'm working with a company presently that will mock up some fiberglass fenders, without the 4" bulge like you commonly find. I'm getting there, one step at a time.

Well the Nismo R4 cam was installed yesterday and now the truck lopes like a V8 (600-700rpm). I was thinking that there would be a sudden rush of power to be had from 4000rpm - redline, but instead I was surprised by smooth linear power gains all the way to redline. I don't know how much, but if I was to guess I'd say 9-10whp. The truck motor doesn't fall flat on its face around 5500rpm anymore, but pulls hard to 6000-6500rpm. I had no idea that this cam would have these characteristics. In fact I thought it was supposed to be relatively mild. Oh well, I'm not disappointed, that's for sure. I also backed the timing to stock specifications so I can install gabe's stage 3 NA tune which hopefully will yield another 7-8whp.

As for the pictures, my apologies but my digital camera decided that it's not going to work anymore, so I have to purchase a new one, or borrow one from a family member. I can't reiterate enough that it looks like a completely stock silver hardbody, with no external modifications whatsoever. But I'll still try to snap some pictures for you guys.

I want to see pics, I don't care if it comes off of a damn camera phone. If you have money to build an engine, you have money to afford a camera!!!!!!!

I hope this is sufficient. This is the only pictures I even have of the truck. It was taken a year ago and the only modification that I've made to the outside since then was aftermarket rust and a custom dent on the front bumper.

I respect the hardbody trucks I had an old school D21 1988 it was the first generation (that started in 86) of the hardbody pickups, that came with a NAPSz engine..... Wasn't a bad truck. Eventually I blew the head and the timing chain ate through ,the coolant passage I exceeded a load over 1700LB.s doing a demo job I had to finish up....
Believe me man your truck isn't a POS compared to how mine use to be...LOL Believe me it was hard to persuade a fine woman to sit in that rust bucket....LOL

But I happen to like Nissans so much I bought a 2004 Frontier VG33e. I needed the added power but man the frontier trucks are slow.....I might change the diff out to make it a little more off the line...

But yeah we want to see engine pics. I will close this thread in a week if I don't see some engine pics. We aren't going to be misleading in this forum anymore.
