All 200SX's from 1980-1986 in the U.S. had twin-plug engines:
1980-81: Z20E
82-83: Z22E
84-88 200SX SE: CA20E
84-86 200SX Turbo: CA18ET
(The turbo was dropped for 1987-88 in favor of the 200SX SE V6, VG30E-powered)
Also as mentioned before the Z22E and larger Z24E were also used in Datsun and Nissan pickups in the '80s.
The purpose of the dual plugs was as part of a system to reduce emissions. And unlike the twin-plug hemi-head motors with two plugs side-by-side at the top of the cylinder, the Nissan twin-plug motors have one intake-side plug and one exhuast-side, so they're actually on opposite sides of the block.
Here's a pic of a CA20E that belongs to a friend of mine from Club S12. I include it here because the red ignition wires make it easy to see the 8-plug design. Actually this engine is now a CA20ET, he is almost finished with the turbo project.

The 4 cylinder 200SX S12 had 2 plugs up to 1988 (CA20E / CA18ET). The same CA20E motor was used the Stanza and probably some other cars.

They only nissan car with a 4 cylinder with 8 plugs that I know of is the old nissan Sunny. Which I don't think was available in North america. We had a car very simular it was the old square shaped sentras or stanzas but in Europe the called them Sunny and it had a different engine and I beleive they had that engine with 8 plugs.

No, really... the 200SX definitely had 8 plugs. I've owned three of them. Count the wires:

Well in the U.S. the Stanza from the '80s used the 8-plug CA20E that was also used in the 200SX.
