If you're talking about the greddy pulley set all they really do is look nice from what I've read. crank pulleys might make a difference. but a flywheel, or even a driveshaft, I'm sure would be a much more noticable mod.

Pulleys are the mounting surfaces for your belts. It turns the water pump, alternator, ect. I think thats a little more than "looks"

The original post was a little vague, but my response was about AFTERMARKET pulleys.

Underdrive pulley systems increase an engine's horsepower by reducing the power required to drive the external engine accessories. By replacing factory pulleys with carefully resized units, the accessories are slowed enough so that their performance does not suffer, but just enough so that more horsepower is sent to the wheels and put to the ground. Where horsepower should be!
quoted from NST, www.NonStopTuning.com

there are a few paragraphs there describing pulleys, their function, and replacement options. check out the website for the rest of the info.

Only one that is worth changing is your crank pulley. Changing to an aftermarket one will lighten the rotating mass on the crank considerably. Thus giving you quicker revs and at the same time freeing up some power. But I personally think its a waste to try and change any other pulley. Maybe for the bling but thats it.

i agree with TWAN, swapping to a resized crank pulley is what will free up power the most

the other accessory pulleys will also yield some power but the results are very minimal compared to the crank pulley.

most people do accessories just for the bling bling effect
