Exclamation Weird smell During driving....HELP!!!

Okay, i swapped out my old shifter for a early model B&M, upon pulling out i could smell the gear oil.... now that I've replaced it... it just started doing this, as i'm driving i smell gear oil...

at first i thought it was just what was in my seats from accidentally touching them during the install, but when i first get in my car, it doesn't smell like it. only after i crank it up and start driving... now under my car around the trans is wet.. but it's been like that since i bought the car with no odor... i really can't figure it out, if it's gear oil, maybe some other kind of hydraulic fluid, or what.

i truly have no idea what this is, to be frank, it smells like riding behind a garbage truck, minus the smell of garbage, like the diesel, hydraulic fluid smell they put off... I've looked everywhere and can't find the cause, it especially comes out the vent while i have the A/C running...

any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

just make sure you reinstall the ring around the shift boot. its normal. and gear oil is a strong smell, you are fine.

ya know thats probably what it is... i had to use the old boot off of my OE shifter, and the top was cracked..i got a zip tie on the base and the top, but there's still a 1/2 slit thats open.... i'll have to wait for the dealership to open again and get a new boot... i kinda had a feeling thats what it may have been

no wonder i love S-chassis.com....

If you need a new boot (probably cheaper than nissan) check out phase2motortrend. Thats where I got mine (it's oem just not from the dealership).
