For those having problems with their gauge lighting...

A while back i posted about having problems with my gauges not lighting up at night. Nobody knew for sure what wire it was, and i know there are others with this problem, so heres the solution. If you have an aftermarket head unit you need to ground the red and yellow wire. Heres a picture of the wire (not very good, sorry). Ground it to the screw that holds on the shifter boot assembly.

The wire originally has a black quick disconnect clip at the end of it. I cut the clip off before i took this picture.

The climate control lights and the gauge cluster lighting are on the same circuit IIRC. That ground is for the both of them. If one or the other isnt lighting up I would say the problem is with the bulbs, or wiring somewhere else.

is this the wire you're talking about?

that's a pic of one of the loose wires behind my center console..
all my gauge lights work except for the clock.. the clock itself gets power and keeps time, but it doesn't light up at night.

i replaced the bulb, still nothing.
if i ground that wire (see above) would it maybe light up my clock?

No, that is the ground for everything. That one wire grounds the clock, gauge cluster, and HVAC controls. If the clock won't light up it is either the bulb or a fuse maybe. I could be wrong, but I think that wire splits into 2 different wires. One of them is most likely grounded already if the gauge lights work. You could try it though, and worst case scenario you blow a fuse.

*EDIT* The clock may be on a separate circuit altogether. Isnt the light always on? I will look at the FSM and see if i can tell.

*EDIT 2* From looking at the FSM it looks like the light for the clock runs off the same power source that the clock uses to keep time.

From what I can tell from the FSM if the clock is working the light should be working, unless the bulb is burned out. So i'm not sure.
