it was/is an aftermarket cig lighter with exposed tabs,unlike the stock one that has the plastic plug, the tabs were grounding out against the car body......

i had replaced the lighter, i went back in and taped off the connections with electrical tape, and i have not had it happen since.

but now my seat belt dinger keeps going off when it feels like it

i'm having the same exact problem with my 94 convertible. I checked my lighter and that was'nt it. It's not my alternator( iv'e had this problem for over a year now and no dead battery). It's driving me crazy.

Well if the dinger is just goin off when it wants just unplug the little sucker that makes the ding . I did that the first day I bought mine :-D
