Thanks for the comments. The color is VW Silverstone Grey. Yes the car was painted in my garage. The only problem is keeping the dust down. It helps to sweep & vacuum the day before you paint, and then wet the entire room down the day you paint. We had black plastic from floor to celing to control overspray. The car was shot with epoxy primer where needed, sanded entirely with 320 grit, 3 coats of black primer, wet sanded with 800, 3 coats of base with a mist coat at the end to even out the metallic, and finally 3 coats of clear with the first being a mist. The primer was allowed to dry for 2 hours before wet sanding, and a flash of 30 minutes between paint & clear. The clear still needs to be wet sanded and buffed, but it looks great without. Orange peel is no more than a factory paint would have. It was the first car that we have ever attempted to paint. Alot of research was done to find out all of the correct steps. I cant take any credit because he did all of the spraying, while I just told him what I thought he should be doing...ie. speed, overlap & spray distance. This was the second paint job that the car got, because the paint revealed some body working flaws and the clear wasnt perfect. Its also the most body work that either of us have done. Ive dove a few big dents, but this shell had alot of little dents mixed with a few big ones. We are in south Jersey (LBI) Thanks again!
Oh yeah...i think his SN is 240silva or something.
