Angry a rock owns my windshield and cracks it!

*T^(*@&^!&#%
Was driving to school today when a rock (i think it was a rock, it was way to fast to tell) hit my windshield on the driver's side, about two inches from the forward pillar and left a thumbnail sized dent/crack. I WAS FURIOUS!!!!!

I just about flipped out in the car.

i'm pretty sure it was a stupid *** giant pickup truck driving the other way that flung it up, cuz it happened right when it drove past me. It could have been the car in front though. I'm pretty sure it was the pickup, cuz it was driving really fast and it hit at the exact moment he passed. I was about to do a 180 drift and follow his *** and scream at him.

I was so pissed. The crack is not big, but looks pretty bad, I dunno how to describe it... there's tiny shards of glass sitting the the hole where the impact was and cracks emanating under the outer surface ( the the cracks are inside the windshield, cant really feel it from the outside or the inside, just the hole where the rock hit.)
Oh man, this sucks. I've never had any object hit my car this hard before because it was LOUD!

Does this mean I have to get a new windshield to fix the crack? or is there a way to repair it? Has this happened to anyone before? Cost?

I'm gonna try and get a pic of the crack, but I have to get a hold of a digital cam first.

They do sell stuff for that and I have even heard of people putting nail polish remover over the cracks so it doesn't spread and spider web your whole windshield. I have 2 chips in my windshield and neither spread. Passed inspection with them and they are right in the bottom middle of the windshield. Driving on I-95 sucks

man that sucks

i don't know how it works where you are, but in mass if you have comprehensive insurance it covers all glass replacement for free. (i know some people who have broken their own windows so they could get new unscratched ones) i dont know if you'll be able to pass inspection with a hole in your windshield...it's technically not safe or nearly as strong as it would be without the imperfection.

when/if you get it done make sure whomever you choose to do the replacement has a good rep because windshield replacements generally do not have as good a seal as the originals. make sure they dont use an aftermarket replacement either and that they actually use a nissan windshield like they're supposed to (according to my insurance company).
my windshield was replaced (due to a tree falling on my car let me know if you want to know that story) but they told me they were going to use a nissan ws but the f*ckers got all slick n put in an aftermarket one. i havent had any problems with it but def would have preferred the nissan

good luck on whatever you do though!

Shouldn't your insurance cover getting a new winshield? Or did they screw you over too?

Insurance only covers cost that are more than your deductable. Say you have $500 deductible then you are responsible for the first $500. Insurance is a bunch f*ckheads. I hate them all. But good luck with what you do. And like konsei said I have heard horror stories of people getting ****ty windhsields and it causing leaks and everything else. So don't go cheap.

Thanks for the info guys. As of now, I'm not gonna replace the windshield yet. I just got my car inspected a month ago, so I have two years left, so inspection isn't a problem.

The crack is in a place and small enough so that it doesn't obstruct my view, it's just annoying everytime I glance over and see it.

I just don't want the crack to get bigger, but it most likely will. I've heard that there are auto glass places that can patch it up, it'll still be visible, but supposedly they have ways of keeping it from getting larger. So there's a chance I won't have to replace my windshield just yet. I'm gonna ask around and get some more info about it.

there are those places in malls that service windshields and are covered by insurance.
i guess your "chip" won't spread if it's not too deep and all that. my Dad got it done and it looks good. plus if it fails he gets a new windshield.(lucky bastard)
it may not look 100% but as long as it dosent spread then you are good for now
