Question about title. very important

hey guys whats up. i finally picked up my 240sx. but theres a little problem, the previous owner signed me the title and everything. but the title still has a lien holder. can i still register the car like that. or is there something i have to do? she signed her name. i dont know if she still owes money to the car cause it is a 1990. what should i do?

I'm not sure how it works in your state, but out here if there's a lein on the car, you have to have a release from the bank or whoever has the lein... technically the lady who signed the title off to you isn't authorized to do so. I'm sure if you speak to someone at the DMV they can explain to you what you need to do to get ownership. (If NY DMV is like the DMV we have here in CA, I sympathize with you)

I was referring to the lines... I HATE DMV LINES. One time I got there 45 minutes BEFORE they opened (they open at 8am), got my number, and didn't get called... until 10:45am.

Wow I just noticed, if she still owes money, that's strange... because the car is 13 YEARS OLD. You'd think that she would have paid off the car by now, don't you think? Unless she bought it used somewhere else, and financed it.

Sorry just noticed that.
