opinions on rb20 in drift car
so i am lookin for a swap cause i just blew my ka up. and my next motor will be a boosted motor. so if i get another ka24de it will cost at least 3500 to boost it. where as i found a rb20 front clip for 1900 plus shipping or just the swap for 1040 with shipping. but would this be a worthy choice for a drift car? cause i am sick of seeing sr swaps. but what are everyones opinions. thanks

get the front clip, it'll have almost everything you need to do the swap. Don't worry about upgrading it until you get a feel for drifting it in it's current state (after the swap). Remember, with all project cars: It will never run perfect, you will always have to fix something, and as soon as you get everything right, something else will fall apart. Use Murphy's Law as an example.
1. Nothing is as easy as it looks.
2. Everything takes longer than you think.
3. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
4. If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. Corollary: If there is a worse time for something to go wrong, it will happen then.
5. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway.
6. If you perceive that there are four possible ways in which a procedure can go wrong, and circumvent these, then a fifth way, unprepared for, will promptly develop.
7. Left to themselves, things tend to go from bad to worse.
8. If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
9. Nature always sides with the hidden flaw.
10. Mother nature is a *****.
11. It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.
12. Whenever you set out to do something, something else must be done first.
13. Every solution breeds new problems.

well what should i replace on it before i put it in? oil pump, or anything like that? its says 25 to 30k miles on them but how it was driven for the possibly 30k miles is unknown i know that. but thanks alot for your input but would you change out anything or just swap it and see how it goes lol.

Well, someone who's looking for reliability would change every gasket, plug, oil pump, fuel pump, temp sensors etc.
When I swapped my SR20, I didn't do anything to it... It's still good after a year + upgrades (bigger turbo, injectors, new fmic, tuning) the only thing I need is a stronger transmission.

For drifting I wouldn't personally go with the RB there to heavy for 240's. The extra weight of the motor throws off the beautiful distribution of weight the 240 already has. It will take a little practice to get used to the new power and throw of the body under increased front end weight. But if your heart is set on the Rb, it is a bad a$$ power plant. I would beef up front suspension to try and tame the Rb's thrashing around. Good luck and keep us posted though.

the rb can't weigh that much more. and i don't want a sr cause everyone with a 240 and a swap has a sr20 in it. rb's can't be that bad for drifting i wouldn't think but i would like experienced people to info me lol. i will definately keep you posted on the progress and what i decide. but why spend 3500 for a motor swap on a rb26 or 1800 for a motor swap on a rb25 when i can get a rb20 for 1100 ready to swap. right now its totally on budget and wanting something other than a sr. and as far as i know i have heard either use a gts crossmember or custom mounts and its all straight up bolt on. unless you go with a rb 25/26 then you run into modifications to driveshafts and more. but keep the info and opinions coming.
