oohh snap.... wtf happened?

haha, so i was driving down the freeway, and i heard an EPIC rattling, followed by what sounded to be a bolt ejected out of something very fast. uh oh... no good. engine kinda siezed up.. so i was like oh snap. sooo i had to get the car towed home, and im like 99 percent sure it was a pressure plate bolt not torqued right, and flung off of the flywheel, getting lodged in between the starter and the flywheel. soooo i only had limited time after i got it home, (i have to go to school in the morning) so within 1 hour, i got it on jackstands, removed wiring harness, removed exhaust headers, intake piping, fuel lines, radiator, coolant lines, all grounds, and basically everything else, cept for motor/tranny mounts, and driveshaft.

i'll be pulling engine tomorrow, taking traanny off, and seeing whats up. oh, just for freshness, i might clean and paint my engine bay, maybe do a wiring tuck/removal of battery tray, and relocation of fuse blocks. not sure yet.

oh i also got 5 lug hubs and rotors for both front and rear, and i have s14 SE wheels laying around. expect pics in the future.

weird cause the way the engine spins it should tighten the pressure plate bolts not loosen them

soo, it wasnt a pressure plate or flywheel bolt. it was a bolt from the rubber piece on the driveshaft. wtf. oh, and i thjink my engine might be blown, because around cylinder 2's exhaust port, there is a bunch of black liquid. fauck. sooo basically, i need to either get a compression tester, or a new engine, or a new headgasket. but if it was the head gasket, it would still drive, right? and there wasnt any coolant in the oil, nor oil in the coolant. any ideas?

If it was the head gasket the motor might or might not run. Did your motor rev to the sky when it broke?

uhm...if it locked the tranny and flywheel, doubt it reved

the black stuff could be oil...which you're better off getting a new motor

if its sohc, good time to upgrade...if its KA, good time to go SR or RB hehe

hope it all works out

black black. wierd. i know. but it did have 240k miles on it, and was still pulling hard. was a good ol' little motor. oh, i was driving "spirited" a few hours before it happened. i'll just source a new block, and switch everything over. sooo... does anyone have a ka24de block and head? near the minneapolis area?. haha

sounds like a bent exhaust valves. and yes oil coming from the exhaust port means damage valves.. pull the head and hopefully you will see the pistons undamaged..

but at 240k its due for a overhaul..........so if I were you.... a nice oem rebuild would be nice and educational if you have never built/deconstructed an engine and or just find a better lower mileage motor... KA's are still out there

carry on

imma keep the engine, but get a replacement, just to get it running. i have a motor stand, so i'll tear the entire thing apart, and slowly rebuild. gonna see what i can make out of the ka. slowly.
