Ugh, sorry, you were right. I was thinking of something completely different. Forget about it please

cat back refers to an exh that is from the catalydic converter back
Oooh! Now I understand.

they take like 30 mins to install once the car is on stands. there are a few rubber hangers and like 3 flange connections. you can drop the whole oem exh as one piece and put the new one in as one piece
Thanks for the info! I may look into an aftermarket exhaust.

make sure to lube the hangers. itll be much easier to slide on/off

yup just squirt some pb blaster and they slip right out

Well, here's what I did for now...I told the guy at the garage that I've changed my mind and would just like them to cut off the pipe before the rust and after the flange, and then weld a few inches of pipe in. Should certainly be cheaper

I've got the car back now with the weld - looks good to me, and there's no more exhaust leak. I can tell that the muffler is definitely still working well!
