ka24de turbo V s13 sr20det
I've read some articles on the two and am fairly impressed with the ka24de turbo... over teh sr20det.. could you guys give me a more indepth comparison of the two because i am new to the forums and the car because i got a 93' 240sx for free and it needs a motor and im deciding on which route to go with. One of my friends can get a me s13 front end clip and have it installed around 25 bills. So i would gladly appreciate some feedback. thx

Welcome to the club!
Me Personally, i was in the same dilema as you. But i don't really like the idea of Turbo Charging Naturally aspirated engines. I rode in a 240 with a sr20det and i was hooked, just my belief. That 2500 dollars for front clip installed isn't bad, about right for clip and labor, but do as you wish, way to score a free 240!

I agree with Gazelle, despite my plans to do a ca18det or rb25det swap( 2 many sr's and turbo ka's where I live)..The sr is a great motor with a large upside..There's alot of support on here whichever way you go...Much success to ya..

Wih the popularity of sr's, you have just as many if not more options here than the ka, i don't think yousould do one or the other based n what other people have done, persolly my belief is to make the car fn for you to drive, why doe it matter ifsomene has done it, everyone has pretty much done everythng, just make it how u want, no one drives it but you, and you needa have fun in it!

Hmm I'd probably drag... but to answer a few questions... 1. im just getting some insight on what to do... ka-t's from what i have read are pretty nice.. but then again so are sr20's .. and another question is ... whats the major difference between a ka-t and a sr20det ?

A big difference is the ka is 2.4 litres and the sr 2.0 litres, that 400cc of engine difference, compression on a ka is 9.5:1 and a sr 8.5:1, both have dual overhead cams.the red top has about 205 hp or so, the ka 155. Some people say why go down in displacement? I have also heard people have BIG problems with ka-t's, me personally, i am going sr because it's factory turbocharged and thats just my choice, not to mention turbocharging a KA can easily cost as much as getting a red top sr, and plus with an sr, you usually get one with around 50-60k km, beats 150k miles?
Hope this somewhat helps in making your decision, you don't always have to be original or different, just do what YOU want. good luck and let us know =D

You can't go wrong with SR20 because it's becoming very mainstream for 240 shops now. It's actually cheaper to replace the engine with a SR20DET redtop rather than building a KA-T engine.
But I prefer KA-T because I know the engine in my head better than an SR20. People are having problems with KA-Ts because they have to ACTUALLY know what they're doing in order to get a properly working KA-T where an SR20 is as simple as popping it into the hood (so to speak).
Plus, it's all about driving preference. A lot of people like the SR20DETs because of it's factory turboed and the fact that the engine sounds awesome. Another factor is that people get addicted driving upon the redline without worrying about engine damages as much as it would to a KA-T.
My preferences is early and larger torque. Yeah, everyone wants as much HP out of their car as they can, but I would rather keep it at a comfy 250-300HP range and a KA-T would give out more torque at that range than would an SR20. Plus, I'm not drifting my 240. I'm turning it into a track/touge specialist, so it's all about handling and corner cutting for me. Early torque is very useful for that type of driving.
sorry for the long read, but it's very imporant for you to understand driving preferences. You have "RESEARCH" upon your driving preferences so you could get more out of your engine and what should be recommended to go with. Long story short, if you want to start learning how to drift, research upon it first. I would recommend an SR20DET because you gonna redline that engine many many, and I do mean many times.
