KA24DE with turbo or KA24E with turbo?
I've read a lot of the threads and forums on this site. Mainly I've read stuff on SR engine vs KA engine swaps. Which engine would be best overall in hp and torque, KA24DE with turbo or KA24E with turbo? Thanks, and I'm sorry for askin a newbish question

Well first of all a Ka24de is dohc (dual ovehead cam) which puts out 155hp and a Ka24e is a sohc (single overhead cam) which puts out 140hp. If you put a turbo on both which do you thing would have more hp? The de. The Sr20det is a 2.0L and a Ka is a 2.4L motor so a stock Sr is more than a stock Ka, but if you were to put a turbo on a Ka it would be the best hp. Plus the Ka has a hard *** block that is practically bullit proof(lasts a lifetime). But the de is simply a newer motor than the e and they just added the extra hp. If you are wondering which models had what, the 89'-90' had the Ka24e and the 91'-98 had the Ka24de, which for the most part stayed the same. Hope this helps.

Well, the KA24E is better suited for the turbo since it has lower compression than the DE, but you can pump more power out of a DE than the E because of the two cams. You just gotta know what you're doing. Also the SR is out a lot because it's easier to do and the whole JDM engine craze. Its a good engine though. The KA-T just owns the SR though.

Other than the whole JDM factor, the SR20DET is turbocharged from the factory, whereas all KA24DET's are all aftermarket installs. There are people who have reliable KA-T's, but there's a lot that aren't... compare that to an SR20DET bought and installed by a reputed shop. Even a bone stock SR20DET will be reliable because everything you install when you swap is a Nissan factory component, from the engine to the ignition to the ECU. Whereas one wrong move when turboing a normally non-turbo engine could be disaster if you have a newb putting the thing together.
Also, referring to the homeland where both engines are from, the SR20DET is preferred by many Japanese racing teams... they even swap the SR20DET's into Skylines for the 2.0L class... or even Supra's, Corollas, etc.
I've never seen one Japanese race car with a KA-T transplant

Who, me? No, i'm pro KA-T but I'm talking to some guy who's gone all motor on a KA before and is telling me how to get abour 250 RWHP on a NA KA. Not bad if you ask me. Seems like he knows what he's talking about. This guy is running 500+ RWHP on his KA-T S14.
