Intake/Exhaust Part Identification

my s13 has an issue, or actually i do. I'm trying to figure out what this part is cause i can't find it anywhere! so you open the hood, you look to the exhaust side of the engine, right to the left of the driver's side front suspension tower is a black box about 3 in. by 3 in. part number 1481040f01 (then the nissan logo) v3001-021. and the other junk attatched to it. It seems it runs from the exhaust back through the air filter like a recirculater or something. Mine blew up and now my nice clean air filter is BLACK!!! can somone lead me in the right direction. thanks

It's called an AIV. Search for AIV you will get answers.

you can take apart the aluminum part that is under the black box and clean the inside with a wire brush. maybe it's clogged and thats why it blew up.

or you can just remove all that stuff you don't have emission checks.

Thanks... I just pulled it out and blocked the lines. Wisconsin is great for emissions drove it for 2 days without it and nothing else went wrong. Now the engine compartment just looks a little bigger.
