First I cover my distributor, and my bypass valve for my cold air extension. I use plastic bags with duct tape. Then, wet the bay down with water. Don't use a nozzle or any preasure, just turn the hose on and get the whole bay wet. Then, get yourself some Simple Green...... spray the whole engine bay. Be careful not to get it on your front fenders. If you do, just wet them down as soon as possible. Once you saturate the whole bay, let it sit for about a minute, not too long though. Then, wet the whole bay down again. Also, don't forget the underside of your hood too. Let it air dry for about 5-10 minutes, then start her up. Your all done. *This is how I do it, some people may do it differently, this way seems to work for me*

I do the same thing...SIMPLE GREEN...I cover my alternator, battery, and distributor...then go to work.

Well since putting a new clutch in my car requires that the engine and transmission come out as one unit out the bottom of the car I wait until its time then pull it all out. Then I use Simple Green and a scrub brush. I have used engine degreaser and a steam washer before but the smell of that crap burning off the motor afterwards is terrible. Its so easy to clean the car when the motors sitting on a crate next to it.

I am not meticulous, but I had a PS leak and there was sludge all over the place by the leak. I carefully used a power washer to blast it off. Otherwise I really dont clean it.
