if you are going to get an eBay sold clutch ( eBay doesn't make clutches) you will be buying from either exedy which have real and knock offs or xtd primarily.

when i was in college i installed an xtd stage 1 and i beat on it and it held up. you will search around alot and hear alot of people crying about the clutches. Many of those people installed it wrong and didnt break the clutch in. Once you go up in numbers, those clutches are no longer good. my xtd which was awesome for about a year began to slip when boost was applied.

one more note, xtd clutches uses exedy pressure plates believe it or not.

if you plan on doing any kind of performance racing you may want to go with a clutch that will hold up and not just get you by. act and other have some low level clutches.

check out www.ThePartsbin.com i get alot of my things from there. they have performance and oem parts

I got a F1 Racing "grip force" stage 3 clutch from ebay... one of those $130 six puck clutches.

Pros:
- Cheap
- Works
- Grabs hard
- I've been beating on it for almost a year, and no sign of slipping yet...

Cons:
- horrible clutch chatter
- doesn't always declutch in 1st gear, doesn't always move smoothly
- ****ty ****ty ****ty pressure plate (softer than stock..., no pedal feel - everyone that drives my car hates it)
- ****ty throwout bearing (making noise after less than a year of use)
- huge pain in 1st gear, prolly the worst performance clutch I've ever used
- pain to daily drive with esp in traffic

It's a pos. it's pressure plate is softer than stock, and it doesn't even release properly all the time. It's a huge pain in 1st gear. Clutch chatter is horrible, and its no where close to as smooth as any other performance clutch I've used. I guess it grabs like its supposed to. Overall its a POS. I actually only got it cuz I was short on cash during my manual swap and a friend gave it to me for like $70.

I can't wait to change it out for a real clutch.

All broken in correct and driven hard:

Spec Stage II on a ka24de / ATS 2 way / coilovers - loved it but it also fell apart on me. So the engagement feel and clamp were great. The springs were horrible and they walked causing the clutch to fail.

Exedy OEM on a ka24de / ATS 2 way / coilovers - now the tranny didn't have a 1-2nd gear synchro thanks to the spec. Clutch was fine. I didn't clutch kick with it and it held up to drift events. The buyer of my car was fine with it too.

ACT 6 puck unsprung on sr20det / ats 2 way / coilovers - loved it. Engaged hard but the car wasn't a toy. Motormounts were damn near close to solid. Tranny mount was close to solid. Diff was crisp and suspension was tight. Cage was rigid.

I would do the ACT again.

Now SPEC Stage II on a 24kade - I didn't install it and now they are supposed to be better. I truly am waiting for this thing to die and I might just swap an exedy or act in there just for piece of mind.

If you are minding a budget get the HD Exedy from a reputable dealer. They are a couple dollars more and very streetable.

A good combo is either a 240mm ka truck flywheel or an rb20 flywheel mated to the stock crank, and an oem or aftermarket vg30 n/a clutch, rb clutch, or vq clutch (not totally sure about vq clutch but i'm pretty sure).

oh and just a little note: the stock clutch will not hold up long with boost, unless you plan do drive downhill alot. I kinda found that out the hard way.

Yeah I know that, but I just have never bought anything on there. I see myself only buying used parts from someone or a jdm part from japan and that's it. There's so much knock off crap on there, that it just gets hard finding what you want.

I made the mistake of buying a xtd clutch/flywheel combo off of ebay. I installed it, broke it in, and used it for 1 auto-x/drift session and 1 day of drag racing. Took it out, and the flywheel was warped and the clutch disk just glazed over from slipping. Never would do that again.

very true.... there are like 3 real Garrett turbos on there and the rest are knock offs. but you can clearly see whats real and what not. you just have to sift through all the bs.. i use it for lil things such as adapters etc for the most part. my biggest buy was some used JIC coilovers from japan. which are decent for now.

those clutches require a 500 mile break in...

if you granny it for that long that it will be good to you.

if you DONT, it will be crap guranteed!
