Catalytic Converter Removal

The Cat. in my 93 240 is starting to go out (you know that lovely smell that comes with it) and I am not about to pay the money to get a new one. If I cut mine out will I need to replace any O2 sensors or can I just weld in a peice of pipe?

on my 93 the o2 sensor is not in the cat...it is in the pipe that runs from the stock exhaust manifold to the pipe... if you cut out just the cat you (illegal in any state with or without emission laws) there is no need to do anything to the o2 sensor... now if you cut out the pipe from the exhaust manifold to the end of the cat you need 2 pipes from the manifold to a collector then a pipe from the collector to the rest of the exhaust...

Thanks for the help. I know its illegal but there are no inspections in my county so no one will be the wiser.

install a test pipe where the cat is then... all you need is a section of pipe the same length as the cat and have it welded if you dont know how to do that yourself... now finding a muffler shop that will do that might be hard... they can loose their license (even in states with no emission laws) i suggest welding instead of clamps... find someone who can weld pipe and you are set...

Try to get a high flow test pipe off ebay. It'll be cheaper and sometimes they basically give you test pipes sold as a high flow cat because their quality is so bad.
