Burning oil how to fix...

Ok so i know that the most likely possibilities i have of why my engine burns oil is,

1. Valve seals/stems (i'm not sure which one) leak
2. Rings have gone to ****.

It is is the valve, how do i get it fixed.

Any info is appreciated. I'm very tired of having to put oil in my car

It would have to be your rings if you're burning oil. If you're buring a vast amount, anyway.

The BEST way is to just pull the head and have a machine shop do it. I beleive there is a guide to do it somewhere (I've seen it, just forgot to bookmark, i've got the same problem).

That's right. If it is valve guide seals, it has to go to a machine shop, unless you have all of that expensive machinery in your garage. How do you know it's your valve seals? How many miles on the engine? If your valve guide seals are bad then maybe the entire engine might need to be done as well. How much oil are you using? Is there any signs of smoke out your exhaust pipe? Usually a good way to check the condition of your combustion chamber is to check your spark plugs. While they are out you might as well do a compression check. Those 2 things I just mentioned will give you a good idea how solid your engine is ... or not. Except for the valve guide seals. That will just use a little oil over time and may not cause your spark plugs to appear sooty. If your plugs are black, maybe oil, maybe fuel. Oil consumption is the only true indicator unless you have a bunch of external oil leaks.

you do not need to take it to a machine shop for the valve seals... you can do those yourself without removing the head if you trust yourself.... if you do it wrong you drop a valve in to the motor and then you have to remove the head anyway.

The valve seal is under the valve spring and can be replaced by removing the spring and installign the new seal.... If the valve guides are bad, then you have to remove the head and go to a machine shop, unless you have the valve guide pullers and pressers. And you can have the valves and seats reground while you are there.

If you do a compression test and see low compression you may be smoking from the rings, and at that point you remove the engine and either rebuild it, which is the smart thing if you are gonna have it apart anyway, or re-ring the motor.

you need to determine the point of your oil consumption.

is it doing it when you first start it, or is it when you are on the gas hard or right after a shift etc.....

oil when you first start is usually the seals/guides..... oil on accel or shift is usually the rings.....

Thats how mine is. Not a whole lot on startup, but when I tap the gas I get a bluf puff. I'm not getting a big cloud while I'm driving. But I can't tell if I'm spraying any under WOT cause of the tinted windows.

Mostly when the car is stopped, and then initial take off. Its like it does it when the oil has time to puddle in the head, then leak down. I'm right at about 2500 miles on this oil, and I've had to put in a quart or two. I put some Valveoline MaxLife seal treatment in there too. I think its pretty much just a gimmic. Threw it in there when I was 1/2 quart low just for ****s and giggles.
