Brake Lights always on?

Ok, so all of a sudden my stereo stopped working and now my brake lights are constantly on? the only way to turn thm off is to open the panels and unplug them. What could it be? E brake? how would I fix this. Any help would be great.

get under your dash. look at your brake pedal and follow it straight up. You will see a lil push button behind the brake pedal at the top. that is the switch. Over the years gunk builds up and its probably frozen, you can remove it and attempt to clean it and free it up. if that doesn't work you will need a new switch.

Check your floorboard under the dash for small pieces of cracked plastic. It could be that the rubber stopper that keeps the brake lights off when not at use has hardened, cracked and fallen off like they usually do over time. If so, get a new one and use a pair of needle nose pliers to pinch it and insert it back into the brake pedal switch.

Ok I think its the rubber stopper as I found what looks to be the broken one in my foot well. It is black and feels like rubber, smashed into tiny bits. Is the stock one black? also since it fell I have no idea where it fell from, is there a diagram or a photo someone can show me? any help would be great as I cant drive my car like this heh.

Feel your way to the top of the brake pedal and there is a switch there that the rubber stopper goes into. It completes the connection when the pedal is at rest and turns the brake lights off. I got no pic at the moment.

what i did was use a bolt and nut....instead of buying a rubber piece that will just mess up again, replace it with a genuine DIY bolt and nut...get one that is just long enough to push in the button when you press on the brake and just short enough to release the button when you let the brake go....

if anyone has done this before, please try to explain it better than i can...
