Adding A/C unit to car?

So I know you can take the A/C out of a car, but can you put on into a car that never had it? I'm looking at a 1990 240SX, non-SE model, but it has no A/C and my job requires I have one for some of the material I transport.

First, is this possible?
Second, is it expensive?
Third, what would be involved? Could I grab a unit out of a junkyard?

Thanks in advance!

i would find someone parting out there engine, with somewhat low miles, and get everything you need from them... I wouldn't pay too much though.

You have 3 choices:

1) Get an A/C kit from the dealer. This is also known as 'Dealer Add-On A/C", which means that the car did not have A/C from the factory - but when it got to the dealsership, the dealership installed it as an accessory. It's probably gonna cost you though, unless you get lucky and find a kit on Ebay (which is rare, but I got mine off there for about $250 new in box). These kits come with every single thing you need to add factory A/C to your car, save for the actual R134a. Install is cake too.

2) like LRB suggested, find a junked or a part-out car and piece together the A/C yourself. Probably cheaper up front, but it might take some time to find all the pieces - and all the pieces are used.

3) Get a different car.
