for the 5 speed guys ...

Tonight was the first time i got to pull the ride out with it's new face an motor and really get a feel for it, i didn't take it above 65ish, most of the time i was 40.. just feelin it.. I went from auto to manual so the RPM band stayed low.. At 60mph i'm at 3,000rpm in 5th the car feels like it needs a 6th gear..

Question what is your 60mph cruzing rpm on your 5 speed...

oh an when i looked up the ratios all the 240sx and silvias had the same finnal drive ratio of 4.08, the CA18DET in japan though was the odd ball with a 4.363 finnal drive, i wish i knew what that was cruzin at 60mph... I dunno prob just i haven't have a nice stick in a while auto spoiled me to stayin under 3grand

If you feel like the 5th needs room for shifting you can always swap a 5th gear from a KA or an SR. The ratio is larger than the CA's, but shiat I'm lookin to do the CA's 5th/ also known as the nismo 5th on my KA (FS) transmission.
Last I checked I hit about 67MPH in 5th @3000RPM, but my hud could be slightly off by a mile per hour or 2.......

hmm i thoght the CA KA an SR had the same ratios in the gear box. I thought it was the ring and pinnion in the read end that caused the CA's finnal drive being 4.363 and the SR /KA 4.08 ratio if i remember correctly...

Last I checked the CA18det 5th gear ratio is the same as the USDM frontier truck transmissions 5th gear ratio. NISMO just rebadged this gear it is labbelled (0.838 gear ratio).
I could be wrong but the ratio's are the same to the gear boxes, and supposedly nissan has used the same gear box with werner synchros system since the mid 1970's weither it was USDM, or JDM...

YEP you have the NISMO 5th.... The site confirmed the 0.838 ratio to 5th. The KA and sr's gear ratio was confirmed at 0.759.

CA18det gearing
1st: 3.321, 2nd: 1.902, 3rd: 1.308, 4th: 1.000, 5th: 0.838
KA and SR gearing
1st: 3.321, 2nd: 1.902, 3rd: 1.308, 4th: 1, 5th: 0.759

If you didn't notice all the ratio's are the same, accept for the 5th.
Here is the transmission I.D refrence number for the KA, supposedly SR's is the same. FS5W71C
Check the I.D on the CA18det transmission and let me know if it is the same. You can see that the SR and KA have more of a cruiser 5th than compared to the CA. Although I would rather be faster than slower so I'm getting that 0.838 gear ratio.

so in 5th with the .838 gear and the CA18DET's rear end at 4.363 that thing must launch nice, but 60mph with that 4.363 finnal drive must be high as hell, 60 for me is 3000 an some change ruffly, I was planning to buy the nismo 4.363 finnal drive gear but i'm cross that off my mod list .. lol

I believe yea haha.. Nismo got a 4.636 finnal drive, that with the .838 5th should make you take off like a rocket.. I was gonna swap in the 4.363 but i like road racing an i think i might give up to much top speed.. i still need to feel out the car more i got 30miles on it sofar
