240sx horsepower

How much is enough horsepower for the average speed junky. I'm looking at a 95 240sx with about 220 horsepower, and am wandering if that's going to be enough. I am coming from a 99 auto prelude and wasn't satisfied with that. How much is enough for you guys

I dyno'd a stock sr20det(s14 with t28 BB turbo with vvt) at 201-2ish, added a catback and came to 220whp, added boost controller(93 kpa about 13 psi) intake and front mount dyno'd 270whp here's the dyno link, before and after the 4 added mods.http://halestechnical.com/Projects.html

sorry for double posting but i hit the button on accident... i think that 220 is good enough only if you dont plan on doing any racin and/or drifting. i got my stock sr up to 220-230 just by adding a manual boost controller running one bar and a test pipe and no other mods. (other then some suspension but that dont affect hp)

....220 isnt good enough for drifting?

ask the guys using stock ae86's to drift

drifting isnt about power...its more about suspension, skill, and finness....sure, a 700 hp car will do it faster and produce a lot more smoke...but its not necessary

also, 220 rwhp is just fine for autox...

Worry about your skill then work on your power. You can try to make up for lack of skill with power, but in the end your going to be getting lapped by the driver with more skill. Also, no one can really tell you if it is enough power for you, we don't really know what type of power your accustomed to and can handle.

Ok thanks for all the help. How much psi do you think would be safe for a somewhat stock motor. Not for daily driving, just for short bursts

the corolla and the 240 cant be compared that way, the corolla is way lighter plus in drifting competitions when scoring they let the fact that the corolla is underpowered come into the fact of scoring. But i do agree 220 is fine for autox. Spend more money on suspension and if you drift on tires and tie rods

if it was a stock sr and if you only had a stock smic you can still push 15 psi(1bar). and not have any problems.i did and my sr ran strong until the day i took it apart to send it home...

and as far as drifting goes it all depends on the driver.... not the car, all other mods just makes it that much easier... i learned how to drift in a stock 180sx with a turboed ca18... no mods at all ... then i upgraded to an sr and added a suspension and all was good slowly i added my minor mods...
