How are your taillights sealed?
Hey guys,
I am new to this forum. I just want to know what Nissan uses to seal shut the taillights. Does anyone know if they are plastic welded shut or do they use some type of silicone/butyl material that has a rubber texture to it.
If it's different for every specific model, could you let me know which s-platform uses one or the other type of sealant for the taillights?
Thank You

i wouldn't use anything other than the stuff sold at the dealership to seal the lights. i rarely recommend that anyone buy products from the dealership but this i one of those exceptions. similar sealants tend to crack and leak with time or are just too messy to deal with.

Thank you guys for giving me all good ideas for replacement sealant. So I take it Nissan uses the Nissan butyl to seal up their factory headlights and taillights, right? I would just hate to start trying to take the lenses off and come to find that they are plastic welded. I hate plastic welded taillights, no fun.

The lenses are held in with butyl sealant. I thought you were talking about how they are sealed onto the body (which is also butyl sealant). Automotive lamps weren't plastic welded until more recently. Removal of the lenses is pretty straight forward, you can use a heat gun or put the lamp in your oven at 250deg. for a few minutes. What are you doing with the lights?
