is it worth it to swap to a SR motor?

is it worth it to swap to a SR motor?
well after reading a bit on these forums, you make the sr motor out to be a bad engine. i know the sr motor is a aluminuim block and has less displacment but it has an aftermarket that is retardedly huge.
Question 2, is there a difference between an sr tranny and the KA?
I don't have a 240sx yet but im in hte process of finding a good one and buying it, 95 and up, (if anyone could point me in the direction of one i would be happy) Yes I am a newb to this site but I'm not a newb to forums (I have over 3000 posts on TeamZX2.com), and I know how resourseful they can be

"Have over 3000 posts on TeamZX2.com"
^^ Then you probably realize that questions that have no defintive answer and have many views can only be truely decided on by the user. Some fully support the KA, some fully support the SR, some fully support the RB, some fully support the CA. Basically this is one where I'm telling you to simply search this site, and find out facts about each. Then make your own decision.

You are going to get people all over the board saying one way or the the other but IMO i like both motors they are both great motors but i favor the KA24DE because for one there are way cheaper i bought one for my S13 out of a S14 for only $300 and it only had 60K miles on it so if i blow my engine up im just out the $300 in most cases. Plus the KA has a lot i mean a lot of potential in it with parts growing all the time to support it. You can put together a very nice turbo kit and buy the engine for about the same price as a SR would be to just buy. And if you make a mistake that mistake could cost you $1200 for a new engine. If you havn't been to http://www.ka-t.org yet go there and look at the featured rides the specs are amazing. Thats my 2 cents.

I had originally planned to go with a turbo KA, but decided on an SR and swapped one in.
The reason - the SR is the more predictable project. There have been a lot of turbo KA projects, but just about every one of them is unique and relies on a custom assortment of parts.
I also don't plan on going near 400hp. If my goals were 370 at the wheels or higher, I would certainly want the 20% increased displacement of the KA.
Both are good. Cost is basically a wash if you rebuild the KA before turbo'ing it - obviously you can spend more or less on either project.

oh man come on.
this all opinion.
what you need to do is research both engines.
and come to a conclusion.
Ive had both SR and KA and built KA-T they have there own uniqueness to them.
My S14 is going to be KA-T, reason is if i get pulled over i can make it stock very easily.
BTW 3000 post doesnt mean crap, i can have a million post of crap doesnt mean that i know anything.
What you should be asking yourself, "Is it worth it to buy a 240?" and jump on the bandwagon. For no real reason.

Each his own. Research, decide, budget, goals (realistic ones). Not what everyone has. I think they all are, or can be good if you have the money. Some require more of it than others. I wanted a bad-*** 4G63T a few years ago but quickly realized, even at my age, that it comes with a price tag. I wanted a daily driver but wanted something that would run 11 or 12's but there was so many tunning issues, as some of you on here may already know. So what I am saying is that you have 4 or 5 good power-plants to chose from. I want to do the RB-25 but already realize that parts are still expensive for these engines, as they are still relatively new to the US market. RB-20's may be an alternative. Anyway, I getting off the subject here. Do some good research.

The only solid, unargueable FACT between an SR20DET and a KA24DE is this:
SR20DET is illegal on public roads in the U.S.; KA24DE isn't.
The rest is preference, budget, purpose. Read the "NEWB" thread, #2.
3000 posts... just means you can type a lot.

YOU do the research for YOUR car, YOU make the desicion (sp) on who you want to do the swap, what parts etc etc etc. It all depends on the time You put into researching for your application .

the sr is not a bad motor, be realistic with ur goals, that would help u decide what motor to use. If the sr was bad then 90% of the engine swaps into 240's wouldnt be sr's would they? Yes its an aluminum block but the sr has and can be pushed to the 600hp range, which is plenty, 240's are light cars and dont need a massive amount of hp to be fast.
the sr and ka tranny are not interchangable..
