LoL, and God Said, let there be torque....and he created Nissan, and IT WAS GOOD!!! But, there was evil in the heavens, I tell ya, PURE EVIL....and God shunned it to earth and called it Honda and gave it no *****. God vowed that forever and always Honda would be stomped into the ground by his great creation Nissan...and so it is written, so it is done. Torque beats all!
Then God said, let there be two different masses for the 180SX, so he created the SR and the KA. The SR was like the water and covered 75% of the 180/240 population, and the KA was like the land with 25% of people building it, yet the KA had more torque, but just like the darkness, the light cannot understand it. So those who build in the darkness (haha, NIGHT) build the engine of torque, and those who build in the light and follow the majority build with HP and low displacement.
On the 7th day...God rested and watched fools like us argue out each engine online....and it was GOOD!!!!!

But God got angry with his Nissan drivers and turned his back on them for evil doings. The Nissan started losing their races, even to Hondas and God laughed at the people's foolish attempts to win the races without him. Finally, after a 500RWHP SR lost to a Turbod Civic, the Nissan drivers cried out to God and sent one of their persons up to the top of Mount Nissan to speak to him. God appeared and told them "I need you to offer up on the alters of your exhaust fumes the greatest power Nissan has ever seen"
So the young person went back to his fellow Nissan drivers and told them of the news...they had no idea what he was asking for. Many kept throwing their money at SR's, others at KA's, yet God still revoked them...finally one driver got the idea for something SPECTACULAR...he spent months perfecting it behind closed doors and then one day ripped out of his garage with the new ERA and offered up to the heavens the exhaust fumes of his RB powered 240SX....God was happy with his people once agains and no more would Honda win. Now Nissan drivers had a 3rd option....one to end all wars between other makes of vehicles...the RB powered 240SX.
The young driver went back up to the mountain and spoke with God...God said that he had 10 commandments of which he needed his people to follow, the young driver took those commandments down the mountain and read aloud:
"1 - You shall not drive any Honda"
"2 - You shall have no other cars before me"
"3 - Though shall not covet they neighbors Nissan"
"4 - Though shalt not steal thy neighbors Nissan"
"5 - Though shall not envy they neighbors Nissan"
"6 - Though shall buildeth bad *** Nissans"
"7 - Though shall run 10 second 1/4's"
"8 - Though shall not kill they neighbors Nissan"
"9 - Though shall not lose a race to any Honda"
"10 - Though shall drive to the death!"
And the people were pleased!

There are two things you need to figure out before you do anything.
1. What type of power do you want, what are you using it for
2. What is your budget
You say you want something in the high 13's? Thats not a problem. With a FMIC and 15psi. you can hit that easily with the SR. All you gotta do is turn up the boost. I can tell you from personal experience that before I had anything done to my car, I was in the same boat as you. I didn't know which way to go, KA or SR. Well, after seeing what was involved to make my KA reliable at higher boost, and seeing what funds I had to work with, I chose the SR. Not because of anything else other then the fact that the SR was able to handle 20+psi of boost on stock internals without a problem. Yes the initial start up costs were higher then what turboing the KA would have been, but honestly it wasn't that much higher. Plus the tuneability and ability to handle so much boost without going gaga over internal work and porting and honing, it just was a lot of extra work that I really didn't have time for. Not to mention that when all done, since I have no machining experience, would have cost a lot more then my SR. Now lets not forget, I had a lot of extra work done to my swap. I wanted everything I had before I did the swap. I have A/C, ABS, and my cruise control with my S14 SR. Did that add like $750 to the price. Yep. I figured it out once, but for the whole thing I paid like $7500, that includes extras that I bought to make it work, but minus the stuff I sold from the clip, minus the $750 for all the ammenities, I really only paid around $5500 total. Not really that bad.
Oh and don't even compare a DSM to a Nissan when it comes to reliability. Not many cars can touch a 240 in that dept.

I'm doing the swap as of this posting. I'm getting an s14sr. I drove s13 sr engined cars and s14sr engined cars and I love how smooooooth the s14sr is. It has a ball bearing turbo and VTC variable valve timing. The s13sr does not. KA turbos are torque monsters but they will never be as smooth as the sr.

i'm not the most knowledgable but my logic on this would be:
find what you want to do. if you want street/drag racing then i would say turbo the KA. torque wins races in drags. extra weight means nothing with the presence of torque. turbo'ing the KA would cost you as much as a stock SR. from my standpoint i see low 13's to high 12's on a turbo'd KA for the price of a mid 14's SR powered car.
if you want to corner, drift, grip and go nuts on cornering and suspension stuff i would go SR. smoother power delivery makes throttle stearing a car alot easier. ever try balancing a drift in a drag car?
if you have the money and are interested in dragging look at the RB. it's a skyline motor. nuff said. 240sx + RB > *
