"Small" budget, need help on what to do

Hi, I'm new here. I'm selling my car and I expect to get atleast $10K for it. I have been dreaming about getting a 240sx and doing a sr20det drop in it. I want to get a 94 s13 and put in a s15 sr20det with the 6spd tranny that comes with it. Seeing as it is i want to race my car in SCC and other auto cross events and hopefully win sponsors, I was wondering what all I should do with my $10K. Keep in mind I will have to use part of the $10K to buy the 240, so I am on a tight budget, or so I think. Please help me out, I am very new to all this.

If you want a race car then your plan won't work very well. All '94 240s were auto convertables. They were heavy, flexible, and you need to buy more crap to convert it to manual. I reccomend the '89-'93 coupe. It was the lightest and stiffest S13 made. To be even more specific I'd say go with the '89-'90 the coupe these years were the XE models. These would be the cheapest, easiest to find, and the steering rack had a tighter ratio than the '91-'93. With the'89-'90 models you'll also have to change the power steering lines, and tach when you install an SR though, but it's no big deal. I'd also reccomend that you don't buy the S15 SR. If you buy an S13 SR you'll save a lot of money that you can put into mods and far surpass the S15. It'd also be much easier to install since with the S15's you'll have to redo your drivetrain and have a hell of a time with the wiring. Oh yeah it'd be lighter too.

Thank you for you help. If no one told me this I can see how far I would be up **** creek. Now I need to look for a 90 s13 (coupe or hatchback?) with hopefully a blown motor. I was hoping, since I'm going to race the car and all, that I would have enough money to redo the suspension, brakes, clutch, flywheel, make the car look nice with a body kit and rims, and have a fast car. Do you think I would have enough money for all this? If so, how much hp would expect the engine to put out? I want to hit 400whp and if I can make it to that, I would get rid of all the rest.

check these guys out, venus-auto.com . they are who i got my red top sr20det half cut from. if you have to few extra buck, compared to buying just a motor and trans a half cut is the way to go. and as far as aftermarket parts, go to heavythrottle.com these guys are real good also.

89 or 90 coupe would be the best, but if you find a 91-93 then don't hesitate on it. I'm just saying if you have the option to be real selective. As for mods and such, I think you should find the car and buy the motor before you can really have that planned out.

man, I have the same budget as you, and let me tell ya, from the research I have done, rb25 would be a much better engine to get. reason being, if you get a car for 4 k, the engine for 3500, you still 2500 to play with, which you can use to get mods like lsd, spark plugs, and free breathing intake/exhaust. and right there, your car will be a BEAST. if you go with the SR, dont get an S15 or S14 engine, its a waste considering how much more you would be paying for the enige. just get an RB and be happy.

The RB wouldn't be very ideal becasue he wants to race this car. The RB will add more weight and he'll be in a different displacement class. Plus he'd have less money for suspension and have a harder time finding parts.

Yeah. see i don't agree with that at all. the silvia is meant to be a drifer's car. no offence but putting a heavy *** body kit and some huge 19 or even 18" rims is just sacraligious. get a paint job and put on some nice lightweight rims, TE-37's would be perfect. don't ruin the car by making it some show car when what u want is speed, cause the 2 things just cannot happen simultaneously. you see NO drag or JGTC car with bling bling rims and a gay veilside body kit and a ironing board for a wing, do you?
