sensor in heater line by heater core in RB20

what does the sensor in the hoses that goto the heater core do? i replaced the plugs and bypassed that sensor and now when i get to the higher rpm's the engine shutters. im gonna go put the sensor back in but i was wondering what exactly it does and why the engine would shudder at higher rpm's without it getting a reading from the water. it is still hooked up just not in the lines.

sensor is to keep coolant from flowing to the heater core until the engine is totally warm, and not needed. Its an emissions ploy to get your car to full operating temp quicker, thereby reducing total emissions.

Make sure that your plugs are gapped right and that all igntion related connectors are plugged back in.
