S13 vs S14 RS20

I will be helping my sons buy an engine soon for the 89 240 we purchased. I would like to know if the blacktop S14 SR20DET is a better engine to swap out over the S13 SR20DET?

I have read the specs on each engine and the S14 seems to be a an improved engine over the S13.

Your thoughts and comments Will Greatly Be Appreciated!

way to go dad
the s13 would be a better swap for you the engine specs are close enough that a couple well thought out mods would make up any difference

I'm with smokie. Also the fact that the wiring will be much easier for you.

Yes the S13 either in redtop or blacktop would be the best choice. Easier to wire, easy to get, and supposedly have the best intake and cylinder head design over the other 2 versions. The Turbo being a smaller T25 is the only drawback but can be easily changed out and still cost less overall than a S14.

what about the S14's variable valve timing? Would that make a big difference between them? I am also trying to build my 240 but haven't really decided to go with the S13 or S14.

general rule of thumb if you have an s13 swap an s13 motor, If you have an s14(like myself) you can choose either but the wiring is a PITA to put an s13 sr20det into an s14.

Well guys I just ordered an S14 Black Top SR20DET. Sent 50% deposit out today. I bought the whole front clip. It has 28,000 km on it. I had pictures sent to me and I compared them to other S14s on web sites. The piping looked different on the one I am buying and it also had a air intake system on it. I asked the seller and he told me it came with an upgraded GReddy inter-cooler on it. I must be honest I don't know too much yet about what I bought so I will be looking into it this weekend. The seller even through in the limited slip differential at no additional cost.

If anyone cares to see the pictures of the clip I am buying please send me an e-mail at danermarley@aol.com. I will send them out.

I am located in the Phila PA Burbs so if anyone wants to stop by and see it please let me know. The clip is leaving Japan on Friday and will arrive in Canada before it is shipped to me. I was told I should have it by end of month.

I would like to talk to some one who has made a swap of an S14 into an 89 240sx. If you have please send me an e-mail and I will get intouch with you.

As always your advise and suggestions will Greatly Be Appreciated!
