RB20DET FMIC size, location, piping????
Did a search, didn't come up with anything...
I have a 89 Coupe with Silvia front end conversion. I've removed the A/C and I'm gearing up to install my Rb20 swap in a few weeks. Question is should I mount a intercooler behind the bumper brackets where the A/C condenser was, or in front of them which will be lower and more forward, but require a smaller intercooler(looks like 24x8x2 is about the max size I can fit there overall, WITHOUT butchering my Silvia bumper)? Also the piping on the RB is on the same side because the TB crosses over the top of the RB engine and goes to the little SMIC, so what kind of routing is recomended when going FMIC? Dustin, you have a S14 but have to be seeing the same problem, what's your plan?

There are a couple ways to work this....
A) Remove the bumper bar, relocate battery to trunk, run piping up through apron/battery tray and across to other side of motor.
B) Remove bumper car and run piping BACK across the front of car(maybe under intercooler) and up to stock holes.
C) Get a FMIC that has the inlet and outlet on the same side and use stock holes.
D)stick with the stock intercooler.
I removed the bar and mounted a 21x12x3 intercooler lower and a little further forward, in front of the fans...I had to cut a little of the lower inlet on the bumper cover, but it is extremely unnoticable.

21x12? that's a fat size, I was thinking a 21x7 or 21x9. But if it fits I'll pick up the big one. What would be really sweet is to pick up one of those aftermarket intake manifolds with the TB on the front like the Rb26. I'm going to probably notch the bar or the headlight brackets because I have a Silvia front end swap on the car and it doesn't have the center support like the USDM bumper.
