A little late response to this, but if you want to make the trip to Nevada to get you ride smogged, just go to Carson City (like 1 hr outside of Reno). Their in their own district and smog regulations there are virtually zip, you can take any car smoking like mad and odds are 9 outta 10 times they'll pass it for you. If they don't just give me a call and I could get it passed for ya for $50 guaranteed.

 

i dont think your car gets taken away from you if you have a swap in cali. You gotta have the papers for it to show the motor isnt stolen. If you get caught, you may get sent to the state ref for inspection, at which time it may be smart to swap back to your stock ka and maybe go back to the det after.

here in alleghaney county pennsylvania you have to get ur emissions tested every year, but if you live outside of pittsburgh like out in the sticks then you don't get inspected for emissions.

 

I live in Chicago and I was getting all excited about my car (plan to do a RB25 swap) but now I am rethinking that idea because of f***ing emission testing.

Should I find a crooked smogger or go to a different state?

The thing about going to a different state is, you will be getting the emisison test done in say Nevada, but you live and drive the car in Illinois, can you go through with that?

Does anyone know any crooked smoggers in Chicago or in some state close to Illinois?

haha...0k the best way to go threw emissions is crooked smogger period. Ive got my own lil hook up here in south cali but if i were you id go around to different smog places and ask..yes ask.

 

yeah...you can't register out of state unless you have an identification stating that you live in that state...
pretty much common sense...
